Video of Dance Screen

Dance Screen at Mind-a-Maze 1998

DANCE SCREEN - Digital body painting environment.

The dance screen is an interactive video installation that responds to the whole body.

This project was made to demonstrate that the act of generating digital art could be as fluid as painting itself. Each person to interact with this piece, can leave their own mark behind.

A stencil is generated by a nearby camera. The change of the body's movement over time is remembered and colours are changed with each new movement of the body. The change in colour is used to indicate the difference in movement over time. As each colour is drawn by the stencil (your body) it too cycles through a palette of its own, creating waves of colour and continuous motion.

Imagine seeing trails and colours flying off your arms and legs as you groove to your favorite songs. Imagine having 1000s of colours at your fingertips ready to follow them wherever they go, Imagine creating your own music-video clip just by dancing in front of a huge tele.
