HYPNOSIS. Much research over the past 40 years has been going on in this field. It is the ability of one person to change the mind-state and reality acceptance of another, with little more that simple words and suggestive concepts. Originally termed "mesmerisism" or "animal magnetism".
BICAMERAL MIND THEORY Some years ago Professor Jaynes from Princeton University put forward a theory, which tended to prove that consciousness was an artificial creation of mankind. Up until 1-3000 years ago people tended to operate "unconsciously " and could not form the intention to do something dramatic like suicide. People wondered along in a daze and it wasn't until society evolved somewhat that the human race started to develop "consciousness", as we know it. In Fact some people find consciousness too stressful and are quite happy just to sit in front of the TV where only receptive unconsciousness is required. When driving a car for long periods you tend to slip into this biochemical mind of state. You could easily have slipped into this state while reading this page and have no comprehension of what you have read so far. If you are in this state it is really easy to snap out of it. People can tend to snap into full consciousness very quickly. A person can slip into an altered conscious state but their brain waves probably not have altered at all. When a person is hypnotized they release their consciousness and drift back into a state of mind so naturally comfortable, but the very strange thing is that their brain waves remain the same as if they were fully conscious. That is they don't necessarily drop down to Alpha or Theta, just because they are hypnotized. They are in an altered consciousness state but there brain waves are likely to not have changed at all. All that seems to be apparent is that this is the perfect state in which you can modify someone's belief system, and where suggestions can be made to change a person's view of reality. It is perfect for a reprogramming job in either yourself or a hypnosis subject. And the person under hypnosis is perfectly capable of thinking and reasoning so it is nothing like ordinary sleep. It is very difficult to hypnotise someone who doses not want to be hypnotised. By there very nature people are suggestible some more them others. Hypnosis seems to increase their suggestibility threshold.
HYPNOSIS - THE BICAMERAL MIND Too Lazy To Be Conscious.... You are in a pub with a few people you aren't really interested in at that point in time. No conversation is going on and even though the people you are with are friends and are sitting across the table in front of you, you are compelled to watch the muted TV hanging in the corner behind them. Even though you have no interest in the commercial sitcom showing on the TV (not that you can hear the dialogue anyway) it is like an attention magnet, you feel compelled to watch the TV, its easy and silent and pretty soon you zone out watching the tele - as if staring into an open fire place. Suddenly some yummy food is placed on the table and you snap out of the trance, back into consciousness. We must ask ourselves. What is this power the television has over us? Could it stem from the mesmerising effect it had on us from our early childhood years? As children did we not willingly surrender our minds to the amazing and beautiful fantasy worlds in the TV? We find it pleasant to be passive and switched off while in front of the TV. We must ask ourselves how much effect the suggestive content of the television really has on us. How does our mind absorb all the information and suggestion, especially in the altered, passive and suggestive state that we are in in front of the box? We don't even need all these flashing patterns and repetitive imagery to induce hypnosis from of the television. We already have a shocking habit of falling into trance almost immediately on the sight of a TV.
Hypnosis Vs Alpha Theta The funny thing is that the technique for achieving self-hypnosis is virtually the same as for inducing alpha and theta states. Although the trance state of hypnosis has been found to be more beneficial to increase a person's "suggestibility threshold" than simple modified brain-wave states. Basically both the hypnotic state and the alpha/theta brain states allow you to communicate with your subconscious mind and that is all that really counts. Once you get deep into your own mind you can change your basic belief system and greatly alter your personal success in life. This happens to people, who have suffered intense emotional experiences, the mind tends to reprogram and edit the experiences faced by the individual so that the personality and belief system of that person is changed greatly. This is also the concept behind brain washing techniques. Experimented with during the 2nd world war by the U. S. The human mind is an incredibly fragile; any intense or deeply emotional experience can alter its perception to external stimuli. |
