NON PHYSICAL HUMAN COMPUTER INTERACTION LOOKING AT THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF MODERN MEDIA AND THE RECENT DISCOVERIES IN MIND SCIENCE FINAL PROJECT STRUCTURE | MASS MEDIA | RESONANCE | HYPNOSIS | ILLUSION | DREAMS | PSYCHOTRONICS | VISUAL TRANCE ABOUT THIS PROJECT AIM: To first study and define, then use elements of what I have called 'Visual Trance' to communicate certain ideas, feeling and emotions while constantly keeping the viewer enticed in a ride of hypnotic visuals that are synchronised to organic rhythms and trance inducing beats. RESULTS OF MIND SCIENCE: At the beginning of this century an increased scientific interest in the power of hypnosis and hypnotic suggestion lead to the dawn of the Mind Sciences. Lead by the Russians, this new science was mostly aimed at isolating our 6th sense - intuition. Through controlled laboratory style experiments western science was starting to discover elements of life, long understood in the eastern world, but so tied down by religious dogma and myth, that it has been hard for the west to grasp. New theories tying consciousness to time-space-matter & energy, the 'holographic mind' theory and the theory of universal consciousness. Along with 60 years of research proving the existance of life fields (auras) and psychokinetics (a non physical, yet conscious effect on the environment around us), has created the foundations for the development of such techniques as Remote Viewing, Subliminal Suggestion, Subjective Communication. And the invention of new devices such as psychotronic generators, frequency 7 machines, tactile sensors and even consumer devices such as mind machines. All these being products of this new technology ready and waiting for used by society. More information can be found on the web if you are interested. INSPIRATION: As we develop into more conscious human beings, the society in which we live will change with advances made in science and our increased understanding of the universe around us. Not only effecting us personally but also on a cultural level and in our art. The purpose of a piece of art is to communicate. That being feeling, emotion, past dreams, religion or whatever, a piece of art always contains some form of message. I feel that the message is most important and with the use of hypnotic visual effects I aim to communicate my ideas, dreams and feelings and really drive home the message. The inspiration for the use of hypnotic effects has come from a combination of my love for optical and kinetic art and also my fascination with mind power, self hypnosis, and mind machines - devices which give effects of resonance in the mind from flashing lights and pulsating sounds at specific frequencies. The elements of visual trance that I will be looking at and using are inspired by the visuals seen in these mind machines. In multiple sessions under one of these machines I examined the patterns my mind was creating under the influence of the strobing lights. I pulled apart these patterns into the following elements: repetition, flow, symmetry rate and interaction. Analysing past animation compositions and creating new ones with these elements in mind I have been able to create trancey video patterns into which I can mix clear, simple images that the eye can recognise very easily. With a few hypnotic tricks in rate, being aware not to over stimulate the eye and keeping the composition relatively comfortable to watch. I hope to be able to create a powerful and fun tool of communication that effects the viewers sense of time and space, submerges them totally into the video and keeps them watching for some time while I add images containing simple and mainly pleasant empowering messages. Hence the term 'VISUAL TRANCE'.
