ST JOSEPHS CONVENT CHAPEL, LOCHINVAR

© PdL 2005
For more than a century, the Sisters of St Joseph conducted a school at Lochinvar. For much of that time it was predominantly a boarding school for girls. In 1992 the three Catholic secondary schools in the Maitland area amalgamated to become All Saints College, a co-educational day school on three campuses. While the College is a systemic school under lay administration, St Joseph's continues Years 7 – 12 in conjunction with the Sisters of St Joseph. [1]
The first organ in the chapel was built in 1933 by C. W. Leggo of Sydney. With two manuals, twelve speaking stops, five couplers and tubular-pneumatic action, it was removed prior to the installation of the present organ, built in 1974 by Roger H. Pogson, of Sydney. The new organ is a small example of a typical Orgelbewegung instrument of the period, and was provided with two spare slides which have yet to be filled. Like other Pogson organs, this one has given over three decades of reliable service to the Convent.
