Welcome to Nillumbik U3A

http://home.vicnet.net.au/~nillu3a

U3A stands for University of the Third Age; this being the time of active retirement from full time employment.  The term "University" is used in its original sense as a community of people sharing ideas and knowledge.

With ageing populations, the U3A movement is rapidly spreading in many parts of the world.  Victoria now has over 80 U3As in both urban and rural areas.

There are no exams, entry levels or qualifications necessary to participate and no awards are given.  U3As are based on a cooperative system where members are encouraged to participate equally through the following; learning, leading a course/activity, or assisting with planning and administration. All of this is done on a voluntary basis.

Nillumbik U3A.

We aim to provide creative, educational, and recreational opportunities for mature aged people in our community.  Activities are low cost and are held in a friendly and informal environment.

Nillumbik U3A began in June 2008 when a public meeting was held to gauge interest in such an organisation.  A steering committee was formed and in Term 4, 2008 four courses were held as an offshoot of Whittlesea U3A.

In November 2008 Nillumbik U3A was officially launched and we started our own courses in February 2009.
