April, 2002 Register
your party and reduce the risk of gatecrashers
Victoria Police, in
collaboration with the Victorian Department of Justice,
is now implementing the Party Safe program across
Victoria. The Party Safe initiative is a key crime
prevention tool in your local area.
Party Safe provides information to help minimise the risk
of having intoxicated guests or gatecrashers ruining your
party. Registering your party with the police (on the
Party Safe form) will provide the police with the
information they need to know if they are called to your
party to deal with a disturbance.
Getting ready to register
Getting ready to register is easy! Before you register
your party, you need to have an idea of the number of
people attending, decide if you are going to provide
alcohol or whether it is BYO and speak to your neighbours
and let them know that you are having a party.
Register with Party Safe
All you need to do is fill in the Party Safe form,
available from your local police station or download and
print from the Police web site at: www.police.vic.gov.au. Make sure you enter all the details correctly
and then submit the form to your local police station.
Details of your party are placed on police running sheets,
allowing for random visits and drive-pasts of mobile
patrols where possible.
You should try to register your party at least two weeks
before it is being held. Once you lodge your form at the
police station, you will be provided with your Party Safe
Information Kit. Make sure that you read all the
information provided in the kit. It will give you more
detailed advice to make sure that your party is safe and
fun for everyone invited!
Always remember:
If you are unable to handle the situation, call Victoria
Police on '000'.
For further information on Party Safe please call 9247
5311.
The shopping trolley plague in local streets
Don't be surprised if
there is a shortage of shopping trolleys at your local
supermarket, because a good number are masquerading as
street sculpture.
During a recent 30 minute walk around local streets I
counted 25 abandoned shopping trolleys.
A neglected appearance of a neighbourhood is a sign to
criminals that people do not care. And these shopping
trolleys in the streets are helping to create such an
impression.
It really is time that supermarkets took their
responsibilities as corporate citizens seriously and
cleaned up this problem.
It is also time for Stonnington Council to implement its
policy of impounding abandoned shopping trolleys and
charging the supermarkets for their return.
Shopping trolleys should be in supermarkets not polluting
the local streetscape.
