About Us
Neighbourhood Watch is a community based crime prevention program which is aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable crime, and providing a safer community. Detailed information about the program is available on the Neighbourhood Watch Victoria website.

STN 1 (Stonnington Area 1) Neighbourhood Watch is in the Melbourne suburb of
South Yarra and is bounded by Williams Road, Toorak Road, Kensington Road, Rockley Road, Cromwell Road and Motherwell Street. (Street map)

This area of Neighbourhood Watch has been continuously active since it was launched on April 17, 1984. It comprises some 2000 mixed dwelling homes and includes the
Hawksburn Railway Station.

The traditional owners of this area of Melbourne are the
Woiworung people, who are members of the Kulin Nation.

In 1983 (before Neighbourhood Watch was established) the total reported crime for the area was 297. Despite the general increased crime rate over the last 18 years, the STN 1 area of Neighbourhood Watch now has a reported crime rate of about 200 per year.

Residential burglary, theft of cars and theft from cars account for the vast majority of reported crime in the area.

STN 1 Neighbourhood Watch has a committee of management and 16 volunteer Zone Representatives who deliver a monthly newsletter to residents.

Residents meetings are held bi-monthly on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.45pm at the Prahran Police Station, 396 Malvern Road, Prahran. The meetings are attended by the Prahran Police Liaison Officer who provides information on current crime trends and assists in overcoming any crime problems which are raised by residents.

Details of the next meeting are in the latest edition of the
newsletter.

Police Officers Remembered
STN 1 Neighbourhood Watch pays respect to, and remembers, Prahran Police Officers who have lost their lives in their service to the community:

Constable Steven Tynan and Constable Damian Eyre who were ambushed and murdered in Walsh Street, South Yarra on October 12, 1988.

Senior Constable Rod Miller and Sergeant Gary Silk (St.Kilda Police) who were murdered in Cochranes Road, Moorabbin on August 16, 1998.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation perpetuates the memory of Victorian Police Officers killed in the line of duty.
