The Festival was a huge success, you can read all about it on our reports page.
We've left the program below just in case you'd like to look up the names of people you heard perform - or see what you missed!
The full program is below. There are a lot of overlapping events so we've produced a "Program Summary" to give an at-a-glance view of the whole festival.
All venues are within a few minutes walk of Newport Railway Station.
All events are free. Bookings are not required (except for Life Drawing, see below).
Donations will be gratefully accepted at some events - all proceeds to CanTeen.
Blackboard session at the Junction Hotel. We'll be taking over the big back room for an informal evening of music. Bring along an instrument and put your name on the blackboard if you want to get up on stage, otherwise just sit back and see what happens!
There aren't too many hills in Newport but the streets will be alive with the sound of music! Just wander around Mason St, Paine Reserve and Hall St and you'll hear something.
Preschool stories and songs with Dharma and Jackie. Dharma and Jackie are familiar faces to many children in the west but this is the first time they have joined together to create a unique program of story and music.
Something for everyone ...
Something old and something new and something just for you and you ...
(This event didn't make it into the printed program but will be a winner for kids and adults alike.)
Featuring:
Enjoy old time music and a drop of Guiness in the relaxed atmosphere of the Newport RSL, hosted by our good mate Don Gula.
Senior Citizen's Centre. More information coming soon.
We return to the Junction Hotel for a folk session hosted by Simon Leverton, including the Fiddlers Session and a performance by Red Cat (see below)..
Rosin your bow and tune up, this is a session just for the fiddlers (Junction Hotel).

A special session for all the ukers out there. Join Gail from the Melbourne Ukulele Kollective for 2 hours of ukulele madness! (Newport Bowls Club)
New Vogue and ballroom dancing at the Senior Citizens Centre. We have so many hidden talents at the NFFC - many of our regulars would know Ted Smith for his finger-pickin' guitar style and witty songs, but he's also an accomplished ballroom dancer! Live music from the Newport Swing Band.
Local Mike Daley brings his laid-back folk trio to the Junction Hotel.
A good old-fashioned Bush Dance at the Senior Citizens Centre. Lots of dance tunes and experienced callers - don't worry if you don't already know the dancers, we will show you. No alcohol please.
Paine Reserve will be alive with local traders' stalls and live music. There's a big playground in the middle of the park so this will definitely be a family-friendly event!
Sharpen up your songwriting pencil, share some ideas and show off your skills! (Newport Community Hall)
There's a special buzz to singing in a group. Join Alan Davies and Christine McDonald in forming an instant gospel choir. (Elderly Citizen's Centre)
You all know what this is so we don't need to think up a catchy phrase. (Elderly Citizen's Centre). This event is a fundraiser for CanTeen, donations gratefully accepted.
A chance for all those people who have attended the Festival workshops and sessions to get up on stage and strut their stuff! (Elderly Citizen's Centre)
Lou Hesterman (right) has performed solo and in many bands around Melbourne, including The Gunda Guys, Celtic Storm, and Bushwahzee. His songs have been recorded and performed by artists such as Maria Ford and Daryl Somers. He writes tunes and songs, plays guitar, bass, piano and he sings, and he now lives in the Dandenongs *Lou's first band "The KMotions" - a Mildura based rock band - won the local Battle of the Sounds, then came third in the finals to the then unknown Twilights and The Masters Apprentices! Greg Rough (left) has been on the folk scene since the late 70s and was a founding member of Paradiddle and later The Travelling Wallabies. With the latter he toured England and Ireland and here in Aus played support for acts such as The Fureys, Foster & Allen, Ralph McTell etc. Since then he has been a regular fixture in many Aussie/Irish bands including Bushwahzee, Celtic Storm & Riley's Boot. Greg plays the piano accordion, flute and harmonica as well as singing.

After all the excitement this is just a chance to wind down, have a drink and a chat about how the weekend has been, compare notes and say a few thank-yous. (Newport RSL).
