DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
I
am sure I speak for you all when I express my dismay at the events that
unfolded in East Timor this week. We have done so much to assist this new
nation and the team that was working on the school at Balibar this week
flew out on Friday afternoon and the next team's visit has been
cancelled.
We have
received an email yesterday from our Liaison Officer in Dili, Daryl Mills
ex RC Footscray stating that for safety reasons he was leaving immediately
to return to Australia. I hope that peace can be restored soon so that
Rotary can continue to assist in the many aspects of its rebuilding works
and other assistance to help our near neighbours.
This past week has been very full and it began on Monday evening with a
visit to the RC Altona City where I heard a wonderful address from a young
student Alison Cini who had been at MUNA last year. Then on Wednesday I
went to the offices of Cleanevent to meet with many of the Rotary
Commonwealth Games Volunteers who cleaned the athlete's village. There
we heard from the CEO of M2006 and AWU Chief Bill Shorten and Village CEO
John Lade who congratulated us on our performance. I then received a
cheque for $ 874,702-80 from the MD of Cleanevent Craig Lovett and it was
a great to hear from many of the Rotary Club representatives on what they
planned to do with their share of these funds.
There were 34 clubs from four Districts involved in this project and apart
from the money earned there was great inter-District fellowship among
those who participated Again I extend my thanks to Bill Dagg and
Jenny Hunter who received a "WEG" Poster each from the RC
Noble Park for their huge contribution in organising this project.
Cleanevent also presented Bill with a Boxed Games Torch.
On Thursday morning I attended a meeting of the PACE Steering Committee
and then to RC Caulfield with AG Ron Adams. In the afternoon I met with
the Siemens Executives who are involved in the popular Siemens science
Experience to discuss an extension of their program.
The day ended with Fran and me at the RC Hoppers Crossing and Apex
Club's Wyndham Youth Public Speaking Competition. We were very impressed
with the quality of the presentations of the eleven students who had
reached the final and AG/DGN John Davis also attended to present
certificates to the finalists.
Friday we traveled to the RC Rochester for their popular Pie and Port
Night and were joined by DGE Bernie Walshe and Margaret, PDG Judy
Nettleton and John and representatives from Echuca Eaglehawk, Kyneton and
Altona City. It was a most enjoyable evening and our thanks to president
Graeme and his members.
Enjoy your week in Rotary.

From the desk of the District Secretary.
As we approach the
end of another Rotary Year, it’s that time when all Club Secretaries
should be making sure that their club records on existing membership are
accurate.
Have you notified RI Parramatta of any change of membership numbers,
have you told them of members who have resigned or passed on to higher
service, notified them every time you induct a new member.
If the membership figures aren’t right now, your club will be paying
membership dues for members who are no longer part of the club, or
underpaying, and a big catch up in the 2nd half yearly dues.
If you need any help in this very important area of record keeping
please contact :
Tony Quinn on tony.quinn@rotary.org
