DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
This week I wish to thank those clubs who have contributed so generously to the Rotary Foundation Annual Program Giving and for those clubs who have not yet done so, to ask for your donation in the coming weeks. Our Foundation is the engine room for the great humanitarian service that Rotary does around the Globe every year and this can only be continued by our ongoing support for the Foundation.
My week commenced with a meeting at International House on Monday morning after which I attended the RC Richmond for lunch and Clive Allison gave a most interesting address on his time in Thailand immediately after the Tsunami to handle the massive task of returning bodies to the countries of the victims. It was then back to the RC Kyneton for their meeting in the evening.
On Tuesday evening Fran joined me as we attended the Beyond Blue Dinner hosted by the RC West Footscray and this event was well supported by many clubs. Guest Speaker Jeff Kennett spoke about his involvement in the Rotary Safari and of the work of Beyond Blue and the ARHRF in raising awareness of mental illness and depression.
Wednesday morning I was in Melbourne to attend a meeting of the PACE Committee and in the afternoon we met with the Cleanevent Management team and finalised the payment for the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village Cleaning. Cheques will be distributed this week to those clubs who participated  in this very successful project. We are all indebted to Bill Dagg and Jenny Hunter for their great commitment which enabled this great project to happen.
It was a great pleasure for Fran and me to attend a Masquerade Ball hosted by the RC Moonee Valley on Friday evening. The purpose of this event was to hand over a cheque to the Neo Natal Unit at the Children?s Hospital for the Tour de Bebe cycle to the District Conference. What a great achievement it is to ride to the conference and raise funds for such a good cause. Well done to all of the riders most of who do it each year.

Enjoy your week in Rotary.                         DG John Wigley

  1. Special request from Bill Stoney - RC Elsternwick
There are 30 hospital beds in a factory in Huntingdale which will be taken to the tip in 2 weeks time.
They are in excellent order. RC Elsternwick sent 23 of these beds via DIK to East Timor last year.
If any club has a project in mind for next year and can act quickly, these will be worth a look.
