DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
I received a
Rotary Foundation Newsletter this past week and it reinforced for me the wonderful work
that is carried out by The Rotary Foundation. Later in the week I was talking with some
Rotarians about our GSE team who left for Busan this morning and there was a question as
to whether each Team member had to find their own air fare to Korea. I was pleased to be
able to say that the GSE program is another of the great programs of the Foundation which
funds this program. In fact since 1965 more than 52,000 individuals (almost 12,000 teams)
from 102 countries have participated in GSE at a cost of more than US$88million.
The GSE Farewell dinner last Tuesday night was hosted by the RC Richmond and it was an
exciting night for our outgoing team led by PP Iven Mackay as they previewed their
presentation that they will give to Rotary clubs in District 3660.As I write this message
they have arrived in Seoul the capital of Korea and are preparing to fly to Busan.Im
sure that you all join me in wishing them a very successful exchange.
Of course the wonderful team of ladies from Busan bid us farewell and they have made a
great impression upon all of us who have had the opportunity to meet them.
There were some happy and sad moments at the airport yesterday afternoon as many of their
hosts were there to bid them goodbye. Earlier on Sunday morning I visited the Kyneton
Airport to attend the Kyneton Air Show, a major event of the RC Woodend and there was a
large crowd building up as I left to go to Tullamarine. This is the second time that this
event has been run and it would appear that it is gaining in popularity.
I look forward to seeing many of you at The Governors Ball in Kyneton on Saturday April 29
and bookings can be made with Judy Rothe on 5422 7210 or Roy Gibbs on 5422 1109.
Fran and I are looking forward to attending the 85th Birthday of Rotary in Australia this
week at the RC Melbourne on Wednesday.
Enjoy your week in

April
is Magazine month.
The Rotarian and
the other magazines, known collectively as the Rotary World Magazine Press, are a
wonderful source of information. We can read about Board decisions, Foundation issues,
upcoming events such as the next convention, and items for consideration at the next
Council on Legislation, possible changes within the administration, and projects from all
over the world.
Not long ago, the telegram was the way to communicate internationally. Then the telegram
was replaced by the telex machine, which was followed by the facsimile. Now the Internet
is the way of daily communication. Television has also added to rapid communication. Yet
newspapers, books, and magazines remain fundamental resources, difficult to replace.
Through Service Above Self,
let's support our magazines, a super source of information, and we in District 9800 also
have our own e-Zine.
