DG's WEEKLY message
The new Rotary year has commenced and we
congratulate those who have who have accepted the mantle of
leadership and are willing to Lead the Way and carry on the
good work of those who have carried the Rotary baton under
the 'Service Above Self' banner during the past year.
I am reminded of the initial objective of the Rotary
Foundation when it was established in 1917 which was 'to do
good in the world' and this also applies to our endeavours
almost ninety years later.
President Bill Boyd has asked us this year to promote the
programmes concerning Health and Hunger, Literacy, Water
Management and the Family of Rotary. These are part of the
continuity of the Rotary emphases and underlines their
importance to the work required for Rotarians throughout the
world. In our District, we will give priority to these
programmes and urge all Clubs to consider support if
possible.
In addition to those emphases, our District will concentrate
on the promotion of fellowship and fun in everything we do,
to involve ourselves in the programmes for youth, to look to
our own backyard and support efforts to retrieve our younger
generation from the evils that confront us today and to
improve the public image of Rotary in our local communities
and across our District so that the by-products of
membership promotion and retention will be achieved in
abundance.
This year, I ask you to join me in showing that we care and
are willing to work for the common good.
In 2006-2007, let us all Lead The Way.
Bernie Walshe
Governor

"Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the

Is it

Will it build

Will it be

Transition
Arrangements: There are always
a range of administrative functions that need to be
implemented as close as possible to the formal handover
date of 1 July which marks the new Rotary year. Most of
these changes occur on a one-to-one basis but some
require a more formal process. At a District level the
systems impacting most Rotarians are:
-
District Website:
Most changes have
been implemented but fine tuning will continue as
necessary. Quite a number of Clubs have been quick out
of the blocks to update their websites but some have yet
to arrive at the blocks!
-
District Email Addresses:
This is a major
task that has been completed at the start of the first
business week in the Rotary Calendar. This happens
“behinds the scenes” and emails will flow automatically
to the mailbox of Club and District Officers.

Important
Notice:
National Police Records Checks from 1st July 2006, will
be $13.30 per Check (previously $13.00).
CPO's should be aware that applications on VP820A forms
for a Police Check, if NOT having a cheque for $13.30
each, will almost certainly be rejected. This will cause
delay in your Club planning for 'at risk' program
staffing. In filing this notice, Keith Frampton
has asked that we express his thanks to all for your
co-operation over the past 3 years. John Walsh is
now our D9800 District Protection Officer. District 9800
also has much to thank Keith for in his unwavering
efforts to ensure that all Rotarians, Clubs and the
District meet their legal and moral obligations in
dealing with children. "Thank you Keith".
-
Changeover Season:
Many Clubs have now completed their Changeover functions
and new Club administrations will be off to a flying
start. So it was for District with over 400 attending a
memorable function at the International of Brighton on 1st
July where outgoing DG John Wigley & Fran inducted DG
Bernie Walshe & Margaret.

into the D9800 Speaker Bank. Contact Jill Weeks to
