DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
I am excited that the District Conference starts next Friday morning and it is rewarding to note the strong registration numbers. The RC Kyneton is now putting the final touches to this great annual event and they are looking forward to meeting all who attend.
Don’t forget that the Conference Dinner has a colourful theme so find your brightest clothes to dazzle! Fran and I were in Geelong on Wednesday and the waterfront area is looking terrific and awaiting our arrival.
The bike riders have commenced their “Tour de Bebe” on Saturday and I trust that they have a smooth and profitable ride to Geelong. This year they are seeking to raise $70,000 to purchase a new JET Ventilator for the Neonatal Unit at the Royal Children’s Hospital and I encourage your support for this wonderful cause.
This week we attended the RC Bendigo on Tuesday where it was my pleasure to present a 50 year Rotary service certificate to Ron Meurer .Unfortunately Tom Tweed was as unable to be present to receive the same award but what a great achievement from these two Bendigo Rotarians.
On Wednesday it was my great pleasure to join PRIP Royce Abbey and the RC Melbourne President Mev Connell at a lunch at International House hosted by the Head of College A/Prof Jane Munro. Our District has a close relationship with International House and it is a regular venue for so many meetings for our clubs and District committees.
On Saturday afternoon Fran and I joined the Hobson’s Bay Cluster AG John Davis and the Club Presidents and their partners as guests of the Werribee Racing Club for a most enjoyable social afternoon. I think there were some who went home with a heavier pocket than the one they arrived with!
Computers for Kids is a program that has been running for some years and its recent growth has been considerable, so much so that they are in need of larger premises in which to operate. If any Rotarian can assist on knows someone who could provide a 500sq.m min. storage facility with amenities in the Footscray area would they please contact Dawn Watson or PDG Jeffrey Bird.
Enjoy your week in Rotary and we look forward to seeing you in Geelong on Friday or Thursday for the golf and tennis. DG John Wigley
