DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
I have been in contact with Bill Dagg over the past few days and am pleased to report that the Rotary teams (200+ Rotarians and friends each day) are doing the cleaning at the Commonwealth Games Athletes Village with great enthusiasm and efficiency. An enormous amount of organising by Bill and Jenny Hunter from Albert Park has paved the way for this success and big thanks are due to them and all of the volunteers.
The week started with a lawn bowls night at RC Kyneton and I enjoyed my second try at this great game as did a large group of Kyneton Rotarians. Then it was off to an early start to attend the RC Glen Eira’s Business Breakfast which attracted 300 to hear Daniel Grollo give an insight into the operations of his family company who are the builders of many iconic buildings in Melbourne.
On Thursday morning I attended the meeting of the District Executive and in the evening the District Leadership Team. In between there were meetings with the members of the Foundation and Vocational Committees.
On Saturday it was off to Tullamarine airport to greet the incoming GSE team from Busan in South Korea. What a pleasure it was to meet Soo Ja Park and her team who looked remarkably fresh after their long journey via Singapore. I am so pleased that they have arrived and I know that the host Rotarians will make them feel very welcome.
Please come to the Welcome Dinner at Leonda on this Tuesday evening to meet them and hear their presentation. (details elsewhere in the Ezine).
Enjoy your week in Rotary                        DG John Wigley

From the desk of the District Secretary.
In this week's edition, we have PP Leon Scott of the RC of Eaglehawk taking part in the Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games.  If any clubs have pics of any of their members, let's let other Rotarians know.  A photo of the the PE of the RC of Glenferrie at the wheel of a hot blue Toyota Sportiva exists but it's going on e-Bay as a fundraiser.  Come to think of it, probably wouldn't get much, so we'll share it with District 9800.

  6. A Vital Health Message: BOWELSCAN
Prevention is definitely better than Cure when it comes to checking for abnormalities in the BOWEL.  It was planned that District 9800 run a comprehensive District-wide Bowelscan Programme in 2006 in conjunction with District 9780 (Geelong and parts west).  However, due to a number of constraints, this has been deferred.  In the meantime, a number of clubs have expressed interest in running a "pilot" programme similar to the one run by RC of Glenferrie.  Contact Cheryl Pisterman inhouse@mira.net if your club is interested.
