DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
I have just read a statement made by Paul Harris in 1911 when he wrote in the first edition of The Rotarian that if he was able to look into the eyes of every living Rotarian, and were to be told that he could have one word to say, without an instant’s hesitation and at the top of his voice he would shout “Toleration”. How true that message still is today for all Rotarians throughout the world.
The week started with a meeting on Tuesday on
Community Service issues and on Wednesday I spoke at the AGM for the Kyneton Probus Club and I was able to talk to them about Rotary in our district and on the international scene. It was a morning of great friendship and fellowship.
With the conference fast approaching the Conference committee meeting on Thursday focused on those few remaining matters to be resolved and the excitement level in the Kyneton Club is building. If you have not yet registered for the conference it is not too late! There is accommodation available and there are speakers and workshops for many interests.
On Saturday I travelled to Central Park Malvern where the Malvern and Chadstone East Malvern Clubs were very busy at the Malvern Autumn Carnival. A very hot day for all but the enthusiasm was high and I was pleased to see a RYLA attendee managing the sound systems and Interact students from Glen Eira College relieved me of my small change on their lucky dip.
Next weekend our GSE visitors from Busan in South Korea will arrive in Melbourne and what an exciting experience for them and all of us that will be. I encourage you all to meet Mrs. Soo J89a Park and all of the team while they are in our District for over a month
.
Enjoy your week in Rotary                        DG John Wigley

  6. A Vital Health Message: BOWELSCAN
Prevention is definitely better than Cure when it comes to checking for abnormalities in the BOWEL.  It was planned that District 9800 run a comprehensive District-wide Bowelscan Programme in 2006 in conjunction with District 9780 (Geelong and parts west).  However, due to a number of constraints, this has been deferred.  In the meantime, a number of clubs have expressed interest in running a "pilot" programme similar to the one run by RC of Glenferrie.  Contact Cheryl Pisterman inhouse@mira.net if your club is interested.

  7. Free Document Storage Facilities for Rotary
PDG John King has generously offered RENT FREE facilities at his family storage business in Highett. Access available 7 days a week. Documents must be clearly labelled and in Super Storage boxes (manila folder size) that can be purchased for $3.30 each or Clubs use own proper boxes (not grocery & liquor cartons). Insurance is optional. Click attached for full details or phone District Admin Officer, John Meehan if your Club (or District Committee) has a storage problem.
