DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
This is an important week in Rotary as on Thursday we celebrate its 101st birthday. Can you remember how excited we all were this time last year as we celebrated the one hundredth birthday! I’m sure that DGE Bernie and Margaret will enjoy this birthday with so many new international friends in San Diego
My week started with the District Foundation committee meeting on Monday afternoon and then back to Kyneton for a Cambodian night where the food served by Peter Moon and his wife Yim was beautiful and their story of supporting a village 65 kms north of Phnom Penh was remarkable.
On Tuesday evening Fran and I joined members of the Stonnington Cluster for a dinner at RSY Tennis Club to hear Prof Wayne Morrison who is a renowned surgeon, researcher and educator, internationally respected and recognised. He is the Director of the Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and his presentation aided by many fascinating images of the work carried out by surgeons who are world leaders in their field was so good.
On Friday I travelled to Ballarat to a Businessman’s Lunch where State Treasurer John Brumby was the guest speaker. The funds raised from this lunch sponsored by the City of Ballarat and the Australia India Business Council was donated to our SAVI project in Sthn India and I was presented with a larger than life cheque for $6500.
Ballarat are hosting the Indian team for the Commonwealth Games and are developing closer economic ties due to this arrangement.
On Saturday we visited Bendigo for a Thai dinner social function where the RC’s of Eaglehawk, Bendigo Strathdale and Bendigo South joined to raise funds for the Eaglehawk ROSE project supporting a children’s orphanage in Thailand. It was good to see support from RC Bendigo and Melton Valley and it was great to see AG Anne Peace there too.
This morning I attended the Sthn Region RAWCS meeting in Glenroy where I was joined by DGN John Davis and DGs from Districts 9810, 9820 and 9780
.
Enjoy your week in Rotary                        DG John Wigley

Thought of the Week
Every story has three sides to it - yours, mine and the facts.
                                -  Foster Meharny Russell

From the desk of the District Secretary.
I have it on good authority that there are a number of Clubs in our District that have somehow overlooked the small obligation that they have of providing the DG the DGE and the DGN with copies of their Club Bulletins. This is again not just some thing they would like to have but they need to have to gauge the activities and events taking place in their District, as they can’t attend every function, dinner, presentation that takes place on a regular basis. So please from tomorrow ensure that John Wigley (dg@rotaryd9800.org) Bernie Walshe (dge@rotaryd9800.org) and John Davis (dgn@rotaryd9800.org) get copies of your Club's bulletins.                      David Pisterman

PHF Recognitions
Keep sending them in.  DG John's monthly updates have been circulated to the clubs and the new members and PHF recognitions have been noted.  If you haven't received a copy through your club Click July, August, September, October and November  December.
