DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
We have had a great response to the District Conference and encourage all those who have not yet registered to “come on down” to Geelong and join in the fun. There is something for everyone at this Family of Rotary event and for those  golfers who would like to play at Barwon Heads GC don’t miss this opportunity.
I enjoyed a visit to RC Toorak on Monday evening to hear Prof. Graham Jenkin whose topic was Stem Cell Controversy. Everyone was fascinated by his address. As usual the fellowship was great.
On Tuesday morning the District Executive met and on Thursday the District Leadership Team also had their first meeting of 2006.Reports from AG’s and Avenue’s of Service Chairmen showed that there is great activity throughout the District.
Wednesday morning saw us at a meeting of council representatives and emergency bodies to hear the presentation from Rotary on “A River for Everyone”, the project to improve signage and promote fun and health activities safely along the Maribyrnong River. Steve Chandler and Peter Holloway were great speakers and we all hope that this great project will soon be a reality.
On Friday evening we attended the RC Central Melbourne Sunrise “Hypothetical” which was presented by business leaders to a full house in BMW Edge at Federation Square. It was good fun and well received by an appreciative audience
.
Enjoy your week in Rotary                        DG John Wigley

  • Message from Protection Officer, Keith Frampton
Rotarians, Please take note of this very important message:
    Police Records Checks Applications
Applications for Police Checks (VP820A forms) are being received without all of the correct details.
    For example:

    • If applicant is a lady, then previous name/s are required please.

    • Signatures of both applicants and witnesses must be original (not photocopied).

    • The cost of each application is $13.00 (this is a special Rotary price - ignore the cost that appears on the VP820A application form!). Cheques to be drawn to Victoria Police.

    • Identification requirements are copies of either a Drivers Licence, a Passport, or a Birth Certificate, and must be attached to the application.

    • Birth dates must be those that appear on the identification supplied

If in doubt, then contact a member of the District Protection committee.

Thought of the Week
(or whenever the Editor gets a good one)
In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.                                                              Robert Frost

From the desk of the District Secretary.
Congratulations to Julie Mason
of RC Wyndham, member of the District Protection committee, and the D9800 ARHRF committee, on being announced as Citizen of the Year for the City of Wyndham.

I have been reading a number of club bulletins and have noticed that the links that are in the e-zine are lost when copied into the Club Newsletter/bulletin.
Can I remind bulletin editors make sure that the e-zine address is included in their news items so that Club members can go to the e-Zine www.rotaryd9800.org/news9800/ and follow all the links in the relevant e-zine.
This e-Zine is not just for the Presidents Secretaries and bulletin editors but is an information distribution vehicle for all D9800 members and is to be distributed as widely as possible.
One day your Club will need some information distributed and this will still be the best medium.                      David Pisterman
