DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
Another great week in District 9800 which started for us at the RC Toorak fundraising dinner for the Bone Marrow Donor Institute. Well known author Jeffrey Archer was the guest speaker and nearly 300 people attended to meet him and hear his interesting presentation and a cheque for $12,500 was presented to the Institute CEO Jane. Hill. An early start at the District Executive on Tuesday morning and then off to RC Echuca Moama for a great evening where it was my real pleasure to present a PHF recognition to AG Anne Peace. Anne is a very hard working Rotarian and a tribute to her was that most of the Bendigo Presidents and their wives were there to honour her.
On Wednesday evening I attended a farewell dinner for two teachers from Kuala Lumpur who have been getting an insight into the teaching methods in schools for children with special needs. Esther Chin and Adawiah Nuri visited schools in Echuca, Bendigo and Keilor as part of a Rotary Vocational exchange and they spoke highly of the vocational benefits of their visit. President Doris Chang of RC Melawati who had linked with Anne Peace to make this possible also attended the dinner and it was a pleasure to have her in our District for a short visit.
On Thursday evening I travelled to Wonga Park to attend the Rotary dinner at the RYLA camp and there was a big attendance from Rotarians across our District. The host club Brighton North conducted a mini meeting in humorous style and then the participants entertained us with a revue based around their camp experiences. What a
Impressive night and I returned on Saturday morning to present all 66 RYLArians with their certificates and what an impressive group they are! Special thanks to Ros Horne and her committee and in particular to Michelle Blanchard and Tim Cavanagh who were the Camp Leaders and who received a standing ovation from all. Thank you as well to Brighton North for an excellent lunch for the large group there on Saturday.
Last week I asked that you advise me what your club is doing to celebrate Family of Rotary month. Well the RC Bendigo South started the month by having all four members of the Weragoda family speak at their meeting last week. Mark urged the club to embrace the Family of Rotary concept and continue to promote the Rotary club to the partners and families of its members. Being a Rotarian is so much more than just a personal thing, the family needs to be part of it too! Please let me know what your club is doing
.
Enjoy your week in Rotary                        DG John Wigley

From the Secretary's Desk
ATTENTION all club Secretaries
Please take action and ensure we don't fall behind with our SAR  as we have been a bit slow in the past and I would like to see this reluctance to respond quickly reversed.

Attention: All Club Presidents & Club Secretaries
Please remember that the semi-annual dues are payable to RI as at 01 January and need to be received at RI by 31 January.
Remember to also complete and return to RI by 31 January the Semi-annual report documentation (esp. Members List) in the pack supplied by RI so that payments may be reconciled.

The late payment of per capita dues by clubs and the failure of some clubs to submit the required Semi-annual Report documentation (esp. Members Lists) to RI on time so as to enable reconciliation of payments is causing considerable additional overhead costs for RI.
These costs and related effort can be avoided or significantly reduced by better communication  - and education of club officers.  Therefore your assistance in reminding clubs through your newsletter of due dates for semi-annual dues will be most helpful to everyone.
David Pisterman, District Secretary D9800 2005 -2006
