DG's
WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
This past week has
been an important one for our District as we held our first AGM on Monday
evening .The meeting went smoothly and was attended by 31 Rotarians and
there were 34 proxies held. On Tuesday we completed the schedule of club
visits starting with breakfast at the Royal South Yarra Tennis Club which
is now the home of the RC South Yarra. It was great to see the new members
at South Yarra and their membership is 11 with more to induct. Tuesday
evening we were at RC St Kilda and it was an evening of fun and fellowship
with a good meal. On looking back on the 72 club visits, we both enjoyed
the wonderful hospitality and fellowship of every club.
There is lots happening around the clubs and I want to mention a most
exciting opportunity that has been presented to us by Cleanevent
Australia, the company that has won the rights to clean the athletes’
village for the Commonwealth Games. This company has a Rotarian from RC
Melbourne as its Chief Executive and our District has been offered the
chance to earn a minimum of $250,000 if we can provide 140 people to work
for approx two weeks cleaning the village. There will be more details in a
special edition of the e-zine and I encourage you all to consider taking
part in this once in a lifetime experience with a significant benefit to
Rotary.
Also in this special issue there will be a section with information on the
District Conference and more information will appear each week.
Enjoy your week in Rotary
DG John Wigley
From the Secretary Desk
Please, remember
that all Clubs will be electing new office bearers for the 2006 -2007
year, and as the cycle continues don’t forget the fact that 69 of the 72
Clubs in our District are now incorporated, and Club Annual General
Meetings are required by the 30th November 2005.
In the meantime if
you send us notification of the various functions your club might need
publicized, we will endeavour to publish them, and remember that the best
way to get it published in the e-Zine is to send it as a Word Document or
if it is in a pdf in a low/screen resolution.

2005-2006

Phil Francis a
member of the North Balwyn Rotary Club has been awarded the Australian
Rotary Health Research Funds highest recognition for his outstanding
contribution to the Fund and to Rotary over many years.
The medal the most prestigious recognition made by the fund, and
recognises Phil's work in organising and conducting the ''Toss the
Coin'' raffle at the AFL's Grand Final over the last 9 years.
In that time over a million dollars has been raised, the money divided
between the AFL Players Provident Fund, the Victorian Olympic Committee
and the ARHRF
This year the AFL discontinued this association and have given the coin
tossing to their major sponsor.
Phil is a tireless worker for his club, and is now the fourth recipient
of the medal.
Although an annual recognition may be made the Directors will determine
the recipient, and this will be decided only when an outstanding
submission for the recognition is received by the Board
