DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
Tonight is an important one for the District as our first Annual General Meeting is to be held at 6-00pm at International House and I look forward to all clubs being represented at the meeting or their proxies have been submitted to the District Secretary.
Fran and I have just returned from Penrith and Parramatta after attending the Zone Institute. The week started on Sunday at Parramatta where we were joined by Philip Archer and Loryn Clark at the Public Image Seminar and I am pleased to say that District 9800 and the Sthn Region were strong contributors to the discussions. I was impressed with DGN Robyn Thorpe from Perth talking about RO-TV and you can read about it on page 10 in the November issue of Rotary Down Under. It is hoped that we will be able to see it in Melbourne soon!
The Zone Institute in Penrith was preceded by a DG’s Forum, the Governors Elect Training Seminar (GETS) attended by DGE Bernie Walshe and Margaret, and DGN John Davis and Joan met with all DGNs and partners to begin their training. PDG Ann White is the Zone Training Co-ordinator. Also at the institute were PDGs John Reddish and Judy, Don Jago and Marjory, Ian Knight and Genny, Greg Ross and Meg, Vance Hilton and Olga and Judy Nettleton and John and it was great to see them there. Our RI President Elect Bill Boyd and Lorna were there and Bill impressed us all with his friendliness and relaxed manner. He spoke on two occasions with an emphasis on Rotary’s principles.
I am pleased to observe that interest in the District Conference is high and I encourage you all to make your accommodation bookings as soon as possible by contacting Alison at Travel World Newtown on 5229 8641 or
alisonk@travelworldnewtown.com.au and accommodation options are shown elsewhere in this e-Zine.
Enjoy your week in Rotary                           DG John Wigle

From the Secretary Desk
The District had its first AGM on the 21st November and was well attended with over 50 % of the District represented either in person, by Club Delegates or via Proxies.
The move to Incorporation has been a success story for our District D9800 and all those instrumental in its gestation are to be congratulated, as are the main drivers PDG Don Jago, PDG Judy Nettleton and past Secretary Trevor Pang.
For all those members and Presidents who attended this inaugural meeting your place in the history of our District is assured.
All Club Presidents:  remember that your own AGM's are due his month.

  6. VALE - JIM BROCK (one of RC of Brighton North's "elder statesmen")
    The Rotary Club of Brighton North is saddened to announce the passing of their esteemed member Jim Brock [PHF Sapphire]. We will miss Jim in many ways...and perhaps learn from his examples:
    We will miss his dignity and strength as an exemplary Rotarian; We will miss his enthusiastic and humble readiness to give advice when asked; We will miss his turn of phrase which was “really quite extraordinary";
    We will miss his determination for absolute attention and silence when addressing the club; We will miss his humorous and detailed travelogues; We will miss his weekly Rotary Fact of the Week
    There was no finer example of Rotary ideals than Andrew James Brock who will be genuinely missed by all those whom he touched and influenced.
