DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
What a wonderful evening so many of us enjoyed at Ormond Hall last Monday attending the Ambassadorial Scholars Iniative. We were entertained with music from Scott Doty, dancing and singing and good food too and I know that our scholars were very pleased with the support they received. The money raised is to purchase a new generator for the School of St Jude and if any clubs would like to make donations to this good cause it will be greatly received as more is needed to reach the target.
You will recall that some weeks ago three of the Ambassadorial scholars from the gulf coast states in the USA appealed for clubs to donate their October sergeants fines to the District 6820 Hurricane Katrina fund. Could clubs please send their fines to the district treasurer so that we can finalise this appeal.
On Tuesday morning the RC Central Melbourne Sunrise hosted the Paul Harris breakfast and over 180 attended. A PHF recognition was presented to Kevin Bailey and the guest speaker Clive Hall, RACV Chairman spoke about their Centenary linking it to the Rotary’s Centenary all in all a good opportunity to meet friends and consider the strength of The Rotary Foundation.
Later in the day I met with the senior members of our visiting Rotarians from Turkey and DGE Bernie Walshe and we exchanged views about continuing exchanges between our districts. Then onto RC Glenferrie for our club visit and we really enjoyed hearing about their programs for the year. On Thursday I chaired the District Executive and the DLT meetings.
Fran and I are in Parramatta today (Sunday) where we attended a national public relations seminar at the RDU building. Also there were Philip Archer District 9800 PR Chair and Loryn Clark who is Sthn region PR Chair. I am sure that the exchange of ideas will be of benefit to all districts.
I am sure that the clubs in Bendigo will have had a very busy weekend catering for the large numbers who attend the annual Swap Meet at the show grounds.
Fran and I will be in Penrith till next Sunday attending the Zone Institute and training as will DGE Bernie Walshe and Margaret and DGN John Davis and Joan as will many of our PDGs
.
Enjoy your week in Rotary.                DG John Wigley

From the Secretary's Desk:
With the AGM of District D9800 Inc. scheduled for next Monday the 21st November I would like to ensure those Clubs that are NOT having their President represent them to ensure either, the Delegate form is completed or else they have appointed a proxy. My thanks to those clubs who have submitted proxy forms.
This will be the first AGM of District D9800 Inc. and we must ensure that all Clubs are represented at this important event on the District Calendar, for 2005.
Another important happening is the distribution of the District Governors Newsletter which is being dispatched to all clubs this Monday comprising the first 2 issues of this year.
Club Presidents can you ensure that they are passed around at your next meeting, as only 2 copies per Club are being sent out. (This will help prevent wastage and unnecessary expense).

District Governor John, District Governor Elect Bernie, and District Governor nominee John are all doing their bit to keep up to date with the goings on in all other Districts, by attending the Institute with many other DGs etc from all over Australia.  We look forward to their return next Monday so they can all attend the AGM and give a brief report of their visit to Penrith.
District Secretary D9800.   District Secretary, D Pisterman

Get your news to a wide readership.  You will note that this issue carries an item of a Community event which is NOT Rotary related.  At the District Secretary's discretion we can and will run these sorts of items. Send us your not-for-profit organisation's special event for consideration.
                                                          David Pisterman
