DG's
WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
November is
Foundation Month and I think of the Foundation as the "engine
room" of Rotary as so much of what Rotary achieves is financed
through the donations that Rotarians worldwide make to the Foundation.
The Chairman of the Rotary Foundation Trustees PRIP Frank Devlyn is
encouraging us all to make a personal gift of US$100 this year and every
year to the Foundation. During my club visits this year I have asked club
members to become Centurions by giving $100 to the Foundation thus
providing personal support for our greatest asset.
This week we have not visited a club which feels strange so we are looking
forward to our visit to Glenferrie on Tuesday, our 70th visit. I am
pleased to note that the Safari continued its travels in our District
being in Williamstown on Cup Day and at Chadstone Shopping Centre on the
following day.
A big thank you to Williamstown and Glen Eira clubs for their support.
I did have a late night/early morning when I was joined at Tullamarine by
Rotarians from Kyneton, Balwyn and Kew to welcome a group of seven from
District 2420 in Turkey. Their leader Banyu Yelcin is Senior District
Secretary and I am delighted to welcome them and trust that they enjoy
their friendship exchange in our District. The clubs involved are Kyneton,
Bendigo, Sandhurst, Balwyn and Keilor.
On Saturday afternoon I found myself at the RC Tullamarine's 24 hours Mega
Swim event which raises money for people with MS. Great support was given
by Rotarians from Moonee Valley (they don't only ride bikes!) Keilor and
Keilor East. With a lot of encouragement I managed a very slow four laps.
On Sunday we joined the GSE Committee to choose the four members of the
team to go to Busan in South Korea in April next year and the candidates
were a well qualified group so the selection was not easy. However I am
sure that those chosen will represent us very well.
Enjoy your week in
Rotary.

From the Secretary's Desk:
November 21 is
the date of the District AGM (now that we are incorporated) being held at
the Greycourt Theatre International House, Royal Pde. Parkville at 6.00pm
It is a legal requirement that all clubs are represented at this meeting,
and accordingly this is a reminder to ensure that either Delegates or
Proxy’s are appointed well in advance of the meeting and forwarded by
fax 9819 1861 or by mail to the District Secretary, PO Box 1092
Hawthorn Mail Exchange, Glenferrie Road Hawthorn, 3122. Currently I
have some 7 Clubs registered; so that leaves a lot of Clubs left to
respond by the 15th November and that is only some 4 days away.
I attended the Rotary Foundation seminar put on by PDG Don Jago, at the
same location last Friday and was somewhat stunned by the lack of
attendance of members to the most important arm of the great organization
to which we all belong. It should be a must go to seminar for every
new member, as well as those who have never been to one, so they can get
to grips with the International role that the Rotary Foundation plays in
making possible all the various grants, like the 3H, Foundation Grants and
the financing of Ambassadorial Scholars, GSE, etc. and that Fund we all
contribute to each year.

RYLA
News
RYLA 2005
is only a month away and planning for the program is nearly complete. In
mid September we had our team weekend which involved some formal
training and program preparation. We are really excited and enthusiastic
about the team we have assembled to facilitate and manage the program.
Almost all of our guest speakers are now confirmed, once again the
program is structured around themes of personal awareness, community
connectedness and challenge by choice. To all new generations directors
the application close date of 1st of November has been extended, so if
you’ve had trouble finding a candidate be sure to contact the chairman
or one of the co-directors as soon as possible and we’ll endeavour to
find you a candidate. RYLA is running from Sunday 4th to Saturday the
10th of December and Rotarians are invited to join us for the RYLA
Rotary dinner on Thursday the 8th of December commencing at 7pm.
