DG's WEEKLY message
Two weeks ago I expressed dismay at the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and I now have been approached by three Ambassadorial Scholars who live in the affected areas.  They are Stephanie Holcombe from Mississippi, Mary Smothers from Alabama and Sky Bivens from Louisiana.
They would like their Rotary friends in District 9800 to contribute to the fund being raised by District 6820 in the USA and they have written a letter to us which is in this weeks e-Zine.  I hope that you can support their appeal.
Our visits this week took us to Altona City, Hawthorn, Werribee, Melton Valley, Daylesford, and Bendigo South and we continue to be impressed by the variety and number of great community projects that are being undertaken.
We also visited the Royal Women’s Hospital to join District Community Service Chairman Yvonne Moon and members of the ROCAN Committee to meet Professor Michael Quinn and the research team at the hospital. We were made very welcome and Professor Quinn gave us an insight into the caring treatment the patients receive in their ward in the hospital.  I would ask that you support the ROCAN program as the need for more funding to further the research into gynaecolological cancer is great.
What a difference we can make by working together in our clubs and Districts.

Enjoy your week in Rotary.                DG John Wigley

Thought for the Week:
One machine can do the work of 50 ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man.

  4. A note of thanks for our support in Timor Leste
    Hi everyone,
Thank you all for the wonderful support you have mustered. There are already several months worth of supplies of baby wraps sewn & ready to be sent, as well as beautiful baby clothing and fabric for sewing. We have had two stud presses donated and delivered to make the napkins, and have raised over $1,600. We still need more baby soap if there are clubs prepared to ask for this, and we have a donor for the baby powder. Towels are being donated, both new and second hand.
The good news is that there is now a tentative date for the dispatch of the next container, which is around the third week in October, so could you please update your newsletters to gather up all the donations for the Alola Mother & Baby Packs for Dili & Baucau Hospitals, and get them out to the new DIK Store in Sommerville Rd. We will be packing boxes from the 4th October if people have time to help out. With thanks, Jill PH  9819 5313
