DG's WEEKLY message
Rotary Friends
September is New Generations month and RI President Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, writing in the latest issue of The Rotarian states "We could just as well call September the month of our future because investing in youth is our future. We can take pride in the fact that we have Youth Programs for just about every age group with Rotarians serving as active caring sponsors.
Interact, Rotoract, Youth Exchange and RYLA all build on the goals of personal growth and leadership of youth by youth.  Rotarians can help young people reach their full potential.  We an instil our motto of Service Above Self at a young age - and let it continue to guide Rotary through the next century"
Fran and I have enjoyed our week in Rotary with visits to Kyneton and then to Bendigo where we were made welcome by Bendigo, Bendigo Strathdale, Bendigo Sandhurst and Eaglehawk. What a strong presence Rotary has in this historic provincial city! I was delighted to be involved in the induction of Nola Thorn at Bendigo and Helen Steele at Bendigo Strathdale. President Walter Lourie at Eaglehawk invited us to the launch of a new project; Skate Park Bendigo.  I also travelled to Camp Getaway on Sunday to meet with the newly arrived inbound exchange students and it was wonderful to see how quickly they had bonded.  Well done to Geoff Asher and his team for conducting this weekend camp.

Enjoy Rotary this week.                DG John Wigley

Quote of the Week:
"In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit." - Albert Schweitzer

Attention all MEMBERSHIP officers in all clubs.
Monthly returns are a requirement of all clubs and is a means for the District Governor to monitor the health of the District membership. At the PETS seminar I was sure that we would be able to lodge these returns via the District website. Unfortunately this has not happened, and I ask that for the rest of the year, that returns are sent by the 15th of each month to Rotarian Peter Lamping
attendance@rotaryd9800.org
Could those of you who receive this e-zine (Club Presidents, Club Secretaries and Bulletin editors) please let the club membership officer have a copy or alternatively make him aware of the new format, and the email address so we can all go forward on the same page. Thank you for your co- operation and understanding in this important matter.

Since 1947, nearly 37,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.
