DG's WEEKLY message
My Fellow Rotarians,

I am starting this weeks message to report on our visit to the RC Melbourne last week when Mev Connell, resplendent in his kilt, was piped to the podium for his induction by outgoing President Anne Jacques. This week we attended my club Kyneton on Monday for the induction of Roy Gibbs and the club choir were in good voice. Imagine my surprise when I was presented with new number plates for my car DG 9800! On Tuesday we were at Southbank where Gordon Hastie took the reins and Wednesday was our first day off since returning from  Chicago.
On Thursday we visited Footscray the fourth Club chartered in our District in 1937 and what a great history they have. Emanuel Tumino is their new resident and the entertainment was provided by the Desperados - talented club members. Friday it was up to Bendigo Sandhurst where in a Cocktail Party format Martin Ruffell was inducted. Back to Bendigo Strathdale on Saturday night for Gary Jones to accept the honour to lead his club for 2005/06.
On Sunday I attended the opening of the Centenary project of the RC Woodend, the reinstatement of Old Bills horse trough in the centre of the town. It was bitterly cold but well attended by the community with some on horseback to sample the water.
At each Changeover there have been PHF recognitions presented and I ask that all Club Secretaries let the e-Zine Editor know their Club's awardees as I would like to acknowledge them all in the last e-Zine for each month.
The Assistant Governors have commenced their Club visits in preparation for my  Club visits which will commence on the 25th July. Have a great time in your club this week.  DG John Wigley

  12. Rotary Information - From the RI site
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar, the first RI president of Rotary's second century, took office on 1 July, against the backdrop of a successful centennial year marked by worldwide celebrations of the ideals and initiatives that have driven the organization's expansion into 168 countries.
Going back to the basics, Stenhammar said, can help clubs and districts embrace the challenge and opportunity presented by Rotary's motto, Service Above Self, which also is the 2005-06 RI theme.
Noting that the United Nations, a long-time partner of Rotary, has chosen water and literacy as part of its goals through 2015, Stenhammar said that clubs and districts can achieve much more if they cooperate with other organizations.
At the new RI president's initiative, The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International starts a new century of service with its first female trustee, Carolyn E. Jones, of Anchorage, Alaska, USA. Believing that involving women at all levels of Rotary leadership makes good business
sense, he also has appointed female Rotarians to chair the Membership Development and Retention Committee, Literacy Resource Group, and Public Image Resource Group.
Also assuming office on 1 July were Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair Frank J. Devlyn, of the Rotary Club of Anáhuac, D.F., Mexico; RI Vice President Serge Gouteyron, of the Rotary Club of Denain-Bouchain, Nord, France; and RI Treasurer Jocelyn I. Bolante, of the Rotary Club of Parañaque South, Metro Manila, Philippines.
