Message from the District Secretary
Welcome to the new Rotary year, the first of the next Century of Service above Self, and I'm sure to be another year of great things for D9800
The District Directories are currently being printed and will be available for distribution by the end of this month, and as incoming DG John has decreed "There will be one for every member in our District".
The only other request that I will make is that this year the e-Zine is distributed to all members so they can read what's happening in the District, see what functions they might wish to attend, or in case they wish to do a makeup, to see that a club has changed venue and meeting times etc.  It is the main information resource for our District and DG John is very strongly supporting its continuance as his medium for passing on his monthly message to members of D9800.

Yours in Rotary
David H. Pisterman, District Secretary, 2005 - 2006

DG's WEEKLY message
Fellow Rotarians,
What a wonderful night we had at the DG's Changeover last night where the room resounded to "three cheers" for DG Judy and John from all present as we thanked them for a wonderful year of inspirational leadership of District 9800 during the past Centenary year. Wasn't our MC pretty sharp in that jacket?
The baton has now passed to me and I accept the challenge and responsibility of the role of your District Governor.  The Leadership Team I have appointed is made up of experienced Rotarians and are a great resource for all clubs.  I encourage you to contact them.
My wife Fran joins me in wishing all of the new Presidents a very successful year in 2005-2006.  They enthusiastically embraced their training at PETS and I'm sure the clubs will have great success as we write the first page in Rotary's new century here in District 9800.
Since returning from the International Convention in Chicago, Fran and I have stepped into club changeover mode.  On Monday night we were at Prahran for the induction of Michael Morrison, Tuesday night at Glen Eira for Adrian Nelson and Chadstone East Malvern on Wednesday night where Hein Otten really got into the Family of Rotary with his four children in attendance.  Thursday saw us at Albert Park where Jim Prokhovnick was surprised to see his face reflected back as we all had a face mask of Jim on a stick.  On Friday, we returned to Brighton North, my original Rotary club, for Peter Harris to be inducted as President.  Saturday night, of course, was the District Changeover and I want to thank all who attended a really enjoyable night and thanks to Ambassadorial Scholar Scott Doty and his friend Ashley for their musical entertainment.  Today, Sunday, we were at lunch at Brighton for Brett Parkin's induction.
I hope you all enjoy these special events which are being conducted by every Rotary club around the world at this time of the year.
Best wishes   DG John Wigley

Great to see my favourite doer of good deeds Les Twentyman from Open Family being honoured with the presentation of the Sapphire Paul Harris Fellow Award at the Canterbury Rotary Club. The Rotarians don’t dole out these gongs to any Tom, Dick or Les – you have to be a particularly useful person.  Of course, Les is that and more. Click here for pics.
    With thanks to David Meeson.

  12. Rotary Facts
    Rotary 4-Way Test
It was created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor in 1932 when he was asked to take charge of a company that was facing bankruptcy.  Taylor looked for a way to save the struggling company mired in depression-caused financial difficulties.  He drew up a 24-word code of ethics for all employees to follow in their business and professional lives.  The 4-Way Test became the guide for sales, production, advertising and all relations with dealers and customers, and the survival of the company is credited to this simple philosophy.  The 4-Way Test was adopted by Rotary in 1943 and has been translated into more than a hundred languages and published in thousands of ways.  Herb Taylor became president of Rotary International in 1954-55.
Of the things we think, say, or do:

    1. Is it the TRUTH?
    2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
    3. Will it build GOOD WILL and better FRIENDSHIPS?
    4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
