DG Bernie's Weekly
Message WHAT'S YOUR
PASSION?
Depending on what
dictionary you look at, passion is commonly defined as a very strong
and emotional feeling, usually coming from an external force. A
fairly wide definition and we know there are many forms of passion
and causes of this emotional state.
So, what's your
passion? Maybe it is a craving for chocolate, sporting contests,
opera, flying, and the list goes on. Would you believe that some
people have a passion for work, for driving, for meeting people and
some have a passion for just belonging.
Passion is something
you can acquire out of interest and it is not usually something you
were born with. To not have any passion, one can seriously say one
has no interest in anything.
Let us see where our
interests lie before we become passionate about that
something.
What about Rotary, I
hear you say? Isn't that something we all have an interest in? Well,
it is a good place to start.
-
We have an interest
in meeting people so we become accustomed to the weekly
meetings
-
We have an interest
in helping people so, Rotary fits the bill there too
-
We like to move
forward and Rotary can give us that opportunity
-
We are keen on the
International scene and Rotary is represented in most
countries
-
We are able to
choose the type of project we have an interest in
-
We are keen on
physical activities and there are plenty of those
-
We prefer to pursue
more intellectual activities and those are well catered for
-
We have an interest
in supporting our youth knowing they will be our future
leaders
-
We are concerned
that the world is not peaceful and we want to do something about
that
-
We believe ethics in
business are important and Rotary was built on those
And so we can go on
and on ...........
Now, what about that
passion? Can we take the next step and develop a passion for the
activities of Rotary?
I have already seen a
passion for developing membership by a Rotarian who did not join
Rotary for that reason. He developed this passion to share the
opportunity for service with those he was acquainted with in
business and social life and that passion has seen him carve his
niche in the wall of Rotary Service. I know Rotarians who have a
passion for helping those less fortunate and Rotary is there to
assist that happening. When I go to meetings, it is plain to see
those with a passion for people because they are the ones who keep
the Rotary clock turning over. I admire those who have realised the
value of Rotary in the world and the purpose of the Rotary
Foundation.
If we all develop our
passion for the many things Rotary means, we will develop a passion
for inviting others to share in this unbelievable experience that
means so much to the disadvantaged on our planet.
I become emotional
when I see the extraordinary work by Rotarians and the caring nature
of those efforts made so others will be more comfortable, less
hungry, more literate and less thirsty.
Let us all realise our
passion and LEAD THE WAY by inviting others to share
through Rotary.
