DG Bernie's Message

MORE ABOUT THE ROTARY PUBLIC IMAGE CAMPAIGN

It is great to see that a number of Clubs have taken up the challenge to participate in this campaign and congratulations to those Clubs. For those Clubs that have not yet made a decision to participate or for those who feel it is too difficult for their Club, I would very much like your Club to consider the merits of participating in a joint District proposal.

As we have advised, Rotary International is currently offering grants of up to US$3000 per club to fund individual Rotary Clubs' Public Relations projects. The District is proposing a joint project, Project Shout, in which participating Clubs will be asked to place their support behind a collective D9800 submission to RI, to fund a project centred upon a billboard advertising campaign which promotes our activities as members of Rotary.

The key aims of the project are the following:

  • To increase the public profile of Rotary Clubs in District 9800
  • To increase public recognition of the types of projects we are involved in as Rotarians
  • To increase membership through fostering a perception of our projects as being attractive to be part of, and congruent with the ideals of those wanting to do something about issues of importance to the community. (i.e. "You can be a part of it too")
  • To consolidate existing membership through recognition of efforts and reminding members of the core reasons they feel good about being a Rotarian
  • To increase public goodwill towards our projects so that we may find support increasingly available for our projects in future.

We have made preliminary approaches to a number of parties regarding the feasibility of this project, and have already received pledges of potential in-kind support from corporate supporters.

In undertaking this project, we expect that each Club within the District will benefit substantially from the campaign, and would derive far more value and effect from any expenditure on publicity than if they were to conduct such an activity alone.

Previously, provisions such as this RI grant offer have seldom been fully utilised by Clubs within our District, and this project offers tremendous potential for each of our District's Clubs to obtain a real and tangible benefit through a united approach.

Clubs are still welcome to make their own independent submission for the RI Grant, and will receive full support from the D9800 Public Image Team should they wish to do so. We do however hope that as many Clubs as possible will seize upon this opportunity to collectively participate in Project Shout and maximise the impact of our message to the community.

I will forward details of the project to all Clubs along with a pro forma grant application that Clubs may use in a joint submission with other D9800 Clubs.

We welcome your ideas, comments or queries on this project, and encourage you to please contact Philip Archer should you have any thoughts in regard to the project's implementation. Philip can be reached on 0418 366 775 or at parcher@archwaygroup.com.au. Please click here to see a visual synopsis of the program.

OCTOBER IS VOCATIONAL  SERVICE MONTH

D

RIPE WILF WILKINSON TO VISIT MELBOURNE

RIPE Wilf Wilkinson will be in Melbourne on a whirlwind visit to Australasia on the 20th to the 22nd November 2006.

To mark this occasion the 5 Rotary Districts in Victoria have been able to arrange for RIPE Wilf to speak and meet Rotarians from our District at a Dinner meeting in the Members Dining room at the MGG on Monday 20th November. We seldom have the chance to meet in person the incoming world President of Rotary International and get to know them face to face. This is your opportunity. In order to enable as many Rotarians as possible to meet with and listen to RIPE Wilf, we have tried to keep the dinner price at $50 as low as possible.

It is hoped that many clubs will book a table or even shift their normal weekly meeting time to the meeting on the 20th November. It is hoped that as many Presidents Elect with their clubs can attend this evening to hear from their world President in the 2007-8 Rotary year. A registration form for the evening can be down loaded by clicking below. Bookings per club with a cheque should be sent to the name listed on the registration form. Bookings close on the 10th November however early registration is recommended as the Members Dinning room is limited to only around 500 and with participation by Rotarians and partners from 5 Districts available seating will be at a premium.
