20 Kilometre Lunch

Hosted By VICNET

Low 'food miles' lunch

The community of Newham is preparing a very different kind of lunch for the Newham Sustainability Expo on Saturday March 13. Dubbed 'The 20km Lunch', the offering will be assembled from produce grown and reared within 20 kilometres of the town. Fruit and vegetables will be provided by residents from their own gardens. Local producers are donating eggs, meat and tomatoes.

All will form the ingredients of a lunch prepared by the Newham General Store as a practical demonstration of the rich availability and quality of 'low food miles' produce. 'Many local gardeners are growing fresh, organic produce that is better than anything found in the shops,' says Julia Niall, operator of the Newham General Store.
