The Nhill Historical Society was formed in 1961and held their meetings in the Lowan Shire Hall. Then with the opening of the new municipal offices in 1962, the society took up a shared occupancy with the Nhill Guides and Brownies, Nhill Drama Group and the Nhill Police. Then in 1976 the Historical Society was grated full occupancy, providing that they fully restored the building. Finally in 1978 with money from the Lowan Shire Council, Nhill Historical Society and a grant from the Ministry for the Arts restoration on the building commenced. When the restoration was completed an opening ceremony was arranged and a plaque was unveiled, the building was now officially known as the Nhill Historical Centre. |
| The Nhill Historical Society house Shire Records, Church Records, Cemetery Records, Births, Deaths and Marriages dating back to the 1800s. There are copies of the Nhill Free Press and the Tatiara Mail dating back to 1880. The Historical Society also has a reference library which includes Clydesdale Breeders Year Books and a photo collection that is for public use. |
