Narre Warren Unit

Mid 2004

The first ever community meeting was held at Casey Council for residents of the community interested in becoming volunteers in the newly formed Narre Warren State Emergency Service.

It is believed that there was in excess of 60 people signed up on an expression of interest form.

October 2004

The first meeting was held at the unit headquarters at Vesper Drive Narre Warren .This meeting was well attended with 45 people plus others from the community wishing to join up too.

From this date we have held weekly training meetings on Wednesday nights

New members trained in General Rescue--Chainsaw usage--Rooftop Safety--Casualty handling--Level 2 First Aid--Policies and Procedures of the SES--Power and Lighting--Knots.

 

May 2005

We were accredited members of the Victoria State Emergency Service and were ready to be operational.

Because we were a large group we were formed into three teams to be on rotation for call out to attend jobs .A couple of weeks passed before we attended our first job.

8th June 2005

The official Opening of the Victoria State Emergency Service Narre Warren Unit . Many Councilor and local dignitaries attended the opening as well as staff and members from the Headquarters Victoria State Emergency Service.

13th June 2005

Narre Warren’s first job. This was a team 3 job--a flood job in a flooded supermarket.

27th April 2006

Narre Warren Unit was nominated for and won “The Casey Community Volunteers Award”.
