CLUB PROJECTS

Here is a digest of some of the Club’s current projects:

Memorial Gates

The Memorial gates have had a long history in the Narre Warren club.  20 years ago the club was instrumental in the location of the gates to the area now taken up by the Casey Aquatic Recreation Centre.  In 2003 in conjunction with the City of Casey and the Berwick RSL the club again was involved in the location and re-dedication of the gates at the new site opposite the City of Casey offices.

Anzac Day Breakfast

For more than fifteen years, Narre Warren Rotarians have prepared a cooked breakfast for people attending the dawn service in Narre Warren on ANZAC Day.  This year we catered for almost two hundred veterans, family members, local councillors, MPs, heads of various organisations and members of the public.  The dawn service was held for the first time this year at the relocated Narre Warren Memorial Gates (see above), and the breakfast followed in the City of Casey’s main dining room.  This long established community service attracts, (or should we say, ‘extracts’), most members and partners from their early morning slumbers on this significant day in Australia’s history.

Highland Gathering

An initiative of the Rotary Club of Narre Warren some 20 years ago, the Berwick Highland Gathering is held each February and up to twenty bands from the Victorian Highland Pipes & Drums Association compete.  Other events such as the ‘heavy games’ augment the day’s proceedings.  The Highland Gathering is a feature event on the City of Casey’s calendar in each year and Rotary Club of Narre Warren members head up the organising committee and provide logistical support on the day of the gathering.
