CLUB HISTORY (in brief)

Casey City Offices

Chartered by the Rotary Club of Berwick in 1976, the Rotary Club of Narre Warren has a proud history of community service, fellowship and involvement at most levels within Rotary.

Narre Warren is located in the heart of local government in the region.  The City of Casey, the third-largest growth area in Australia, has its administrative headquarters in Narre Warren.  The population of Casey is growing almost exponentially and boasts the fastest growth in the state.

The Rotary Club of Narre Warren was honoured to have its first District Governor appointed in 1980/81.  A charter member and the club’s inaugural president, PDG Harry Oakes (and his wife Kathleen) provided strong leadership in that role, and gave many years of distinguished service to Rotary.  PDG Harry Oakes is now an honorary member of the club.

PP Tom McGill was chosen as District Governor nominee for 1994/95: sadly, he died before taking up the position as District Governor.  His wife Anne, continued to serve the Inner Wheel Club of Narre Warren with distinction and is the current president of Inner Wheel Australia.  She is the second member to hold that office from the club, Margaret Sansom was Australian President in 1997/98.

Two additional members of the Rotary Club of Narre Warren have held the office of District Governor those being PDG Ian Pickering with his term expiring on June 30 2001 and PDG Ray Stewart on June 30 2006
