The
Mornington Youth and Citizens Band is a community-based organisation
on the Mornington Peninsula, south of Melbourne, Australia. It is
a group of people covering a broad age range who have a common interest
in the love and enjoyment of playing music. They are people
not satisfied with listening to music, they want to play an instrument
and make music themselves. The join together with fellow
music makers in a BRASS BAND.
The Band
has approximately 25 members, most of whom meet each Tuesday evening
to rehearse. Rehearsals
help members sharpen up their ensemble skills when getting ready
for a public performance. However, most rehearsals are
simply a get-together to play tunes that sound better when you play
them with 20 or 30 other musicians, and to socialise with people
of similar interests.
The Band
is affiliated with the Victorian Bands League and as such joins
a family of brass and concert bands Australia wide. The League represents
the banding movement as well as organising graded band competitions.
Music
Repertoire
The public expect brass bands to play marches, and we don't disappoint
them. They are a favourite of band members too. But there is
more to brass band music than just marches. The band
has a well stocked library of music ranging from Broadway/movie
themes and popular tunes, to classical pieces written for brass
band. So we have music for fun, and pieces that test
our instrumental skills.
