Day Walks
Day walks are scheduled most weekends. These range in difficulty and length from easy to hard grading. They are led by experienced volunteer leaders who are assisted by two scouts, and locations are selected to provide a variety of terrain and points of interest.
Walk Gradings:
| Easy | Gently undulating terrain walking on formed tracks. Distance up to 14 km. |
| Medium | Walk may be off track and include steady climbs and descents. Distance 15 to 18 km. |
| Hard | Sustained walking, moderate to hard climbs and descents including off track. |
Day walks are generally within 2 hours' drive of Melbourne and members usually car pool, although coaches or public transport are sometimes used. Booking for a walk is done by phone with only 4 days' notice being required.
Visitors and prospective members are welcome to come along on a day walk to
experience the fun of walking in the bush and the camaraderie of the club. A
small charge is levied to cover insurance.
Support is given to new members to enable them to find their feet quickly.

Base Camps and Accommodation Trips are arranged so that members can go away for periods from a weekend to 10 days, staying in one location and exploring it extensively by day walking.
Recent trips include Warrumbungles NP (NSW), Mt Pilot and the Cobungras (Vic), Cape Otway (Vic), Paradise Falls (Vic), Blue Mountains (NSW)
Note that Base Camps and Accommodation Trips are restricted to full members.
Back Packing
There is a keen contingent of back packers in the club and trips away are regularly scheduled. These are of varying difficulty and duration. A beginners' pack is held each year to give members the opportunity to try out backpacking and support is offered so members get the most out of the experience.
Recent trips include Stewart Island (NZ), Northern Dinner Plain (Vic), Frenchman's Cap (Tas), and Mt Buffalo (Vic).
Note that Back Pack trips are restricted to full members.

Other Outdoor Activities
Conservation work is popular, with the club responsible for bone-seeding an area within Arthur's Seat NP and members joining in on Bush Walking Victoria's sponsored working bees.

Skiing Several day trips to cross-country ski locations are scheduled each year but are very snow-dependent.

Socials
There is an evening meeting most months where a presentation is given on subjects likely to be of interest to bush walkers. Club members and guest speakers present topics which are mostly flora and fauna related. Sometimes videos of recent trips are shown. A light supper is supplied.
There are also several lunches during the year and a Christmas lunch - all well attended.
Training
The club has a strong commitment to teaching bush-craft skills to members and developing new leaders. Map-reading, navigation, safety and basic first aid are taught both in the classroom and on practical training days outdoors. New members are encouraged to participate in these activities. Members are also given the opportunity to practise their skills on day walks and back pack trips under the walk leader's guidance.
Leadership
All the club activities are run by volunteers. Day walks are scouted beforehand by the leader and two scouts. It is exciting and challenging to walk through an unknown area to find the most interesting terrain, suitable tracks and off-track routes for the scheduled walk. Many members say that this is their favorite club activity!
Taking on positions of leadership, whether as a walk leader or committee member provides an opportunity for self development as well as the satisfaction of giving back to the club.
