Monash University Whites Football 1964-1965; 1971 onwards Victorian Amateur Football Association
CLUB SONG
Adopted by the Whites in 1980, this is sung, loudly of course, to the tune of "Halls of Montezuma" (the legendary battle hymn of the US Marines) after many a fine victory! We are the Whites and strive for victory, We are the team and we are strong, The other teams we'll meet and show them, To think they'll beat us they are wrong. We always play together as a team, Our aim is always for the ball. We play it hard, We play it fair, We never shirk, We're always there, 'Cause we're the mighty Monash Whites. Song History: With the formalised split from the Blues at the end of the 1979 season, the Whites decided that a new club song was in order. Pat Cain, senior coach of the Whites in '79, came up with a variation on his former club Croydon's song ... and the rest, as they say, is history. ORIGINAL CLUB SONG Prior to the introduction of the new club song (as listed above), both Monash football teams (Whites and Blues) marked victory to the tune of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" (a popular song of the American Civil War). Monash are forging on to fame, Hurrah, hurrah! The team the others cannot tame, Hurrah, hurrah! We go in hard, we play it fair, Courage - we've got plenty to spare, And the beer will flow, When Monash comes marching home. The Whites have got their eye on the flag, Hurrah, hurrah! We will not rest `til it's in the bag, Hurrah, hurrah! Courage and skill we do not lack, As we follow the ball right into the pack: And the beer will flow, When Monash comes marching home. Our thanks to Frank Farnsworth for details of the original club song and Pat Cain for the history of the adoption of the current song.
