    Match Report: This week saw the Whites back at home, after two tough away games on the trot yielding mixed results. Coming off the break, and after a disappointing loss to Old Camberwell, the importance of a consolidating win over Old Trinity was not lost on the group; a sentiment echoed by Lucka in his pre match address. With Big Jim Sheldon playing his 50th game, and veteran Lumpy going around for his first game of the year after some unlucky setbacks, there was plenty to play for and spirits were high.

    Despite starting with the wind, the Whites were slow to get off the mark, with Trinity scoring the first major. Soon enough our boys hit their straps, led by some deft ruckwork from Keeta Perry and the ever reliable extraction provided by Monkey Costello in the clinches. The run off halfback stepped into second gear, and as a result the forwards were having best use of it. Goody again showed his poise and ability to find the middle of the big sticks, ending the quarter with two sausage rolls off the snap.

    The second quarter saw the Whites set up into the infamous Oval 2 wind, which was blowing to the car park end. Fearing the opposition may use this to get back into the game, the boys had their work cut out for them. However, Diamond Joe O’Dwyer and his fellow on-ball brigade were getting first use in the middle and at the stoppages, and with Pinky finding space repeatedly across half forward the Whites were able to match their own first term goal tally. The backline handled any Trinity advance with extreme prejudice, with Chuck Smibert performing his usual role with his usual flair. Tommy ‘Iron Fist’ O’Dwyer and ‘The Rock’ Von Moger also showed stoic resistance.

    The message at the long break was not to let the T’s back into the game, and kicking again with the breeze, the Whites piled on 7 for the quarter, with Jimmy Sheldon the leading light up forward in his milestone game. Lumpy used the ball well through the middle, and Trav ‘bubble boy’ Austenberry linked up consistently out wide on his wing. Surprisingly, club enigma 'Jason Heatley' had not at this stage made his way onto the casualty list, instead showing some pace and skill on the flank, and spectacularly setting up Dr ‘Dre’ Sheldon for one of his 6 majors of the afternoon.

    Having set up the win early, the Whites ended the game strongly to run out comfortable winners in a genuine four-quarter effort. The endeavour shown by the group was perhaps epitomised by the outstanding work of ‘The Rock’ in the final term, when with the result already a foregone conclusion, he executed two consecutive smothers and some well laid shepherds running the ball out of defence. Congratulations to Jimmy Sheldon on a fine display in his 50th game, and it was great to see club stalwart and all-round madman Jawsy back in the mix! Next up: Fitzroy. COYW.
