Match Report: The Whiters nearly paid dearly for some wayward kicking as Nobs attempted to win the inaugural cross-city derby with a laborious 23-point win.  The Whites led by 26 points at half-time but it should have been so much more, with their atrocious kicking on goal, they booted 2.5 in the first quarter, when only 14 Nobs took the field for the first half of the quarter, keeping them in the match.

Inspired by Joseph (the galloper) O'Dwyer (30 possessions), Henry (wetfield) Drysdale, Jim (the village) Sheldon and the ever reliable and dominant Captain Paul 'the buzz' Coughlin, the Whites withstood a final quarter effort and stormed back into the contest.

The galloper (brother of club superheroes Dom and Dan) playing his 50th game for the Whiters, collected 35 possessions and won the Rob Glendinning Medal as best afield, the first time he had taken the award out.

Von (grapes), Seb (reniart), Offi (onnie), Goody (timgrahamandbill), TJ (JT), Chapman (lips) and Goodfellow (huddo) were also crucial in the win.

It was the Whites' first straight derby win, with the overall ledger now favouring the Whites 1-0.

Mick Priddis, Dan Cox, Shannon Hurnley, Adam Gelwood and David Worrypanda were prominent for the Nobs but in the end it was their inability to show up in first-quarter that may have cost them the game.

First gamer Mofo (Bertha) amassed 10 disposals in the third quarter but with the Nobs zone in full effect, the debutant struggled to create a scoring chance, until in the final quarter he managed to snare his first goal in his first game for the club. Although records are not kept, it has been decided that this is a first for the club

In contrast, those Nobs registered 6 scores from their 13 inside 50s for the term.

The Whites were dealt a blow when Nibbler (nibbler), who had been given the assignment of tagging Damien Kerr, injured his right shoulder late in the third term while taking a courageous mark. Dave 'the darkest' O'Brien seized upon the opportunity, replaced Nibbler whilst coach Luc (Sarkozy) was watching the action elsewhere on the ground, and put himself into the guts and contested the next centre square ball up. Although no records are kept, it has been decided, The dark lord in the middle is also a first for the club. Probably troubled by cramp throughout the game, the famous #14 for the Whites played a stellar match and went on to also win the Rob Glendenning Medal.

Whites veteran 'The (toilet goblin) bort" booted an opportunistic goal for the term but it was Nobs who were on the front foot with Hill in particular a constant threat forward of centre.

Goals to Quintel (Sol), Coughlin, O'Brien and Fitzpatrick (The Sizer) saw the Whiters kick 4 in the 3rd, however the game was not done yet

The Nobs amassed a heap of inside 50s in the last 15 minutes of the match, but the Whites, with the assistance of club super duper hero, Damien (red rum) West (12 rebounds, 8 assists) managed to hold them off.

But the day belonged to JOD, with an impressive total of 38 possessions, a Glendenning Medal and 2 goals all in his 50th game, it was a traditional Whites way of saying thanks to one of their finest players of the decade.
