In March 2000 the Eastern Freeway Tunnel Group (EFTG) (representing many local conservation groups) held a public meeting to help inform interested people about the four government tunnel options for extending the Eastern Freeway to Ringwood. In order to help save the Mullum Mullum Valley from devastation, EFTG also provided assistance for people wishing to make submissions to Government. The meeting included:

(with maps) of the four Government tunnel options
- Panel of experts
to answer questions relating to the options and the broad environmental issues including: Flora & Fauna experts, CSIRO Air Pollution expert, and the Halcrow Pacific Engineer
- Assistance
with preparation of submissions to Government
At the meeting over 530 concerned people voted on and passed the following resolutions:
Resolution 1
This meeting endorses option 3 as the option that has the least environmental impact on the Mullum Mullum.
Resolution 2
This Community is of the view that the Mullum Mullum Valley must be preserved for posterity and therefore Options 1, 2 and 4 are rejected on environmental and social grounds.
Resolution 3
This community calls on the Government to honour its election promise and adhere to ALP policy and relevant legislation to require an environmental impact statement before any cabinet submission on the options for extending the Eastern Freeway.
Resolution 4
This meeting is indignant that the public information on the four options applied by Vicroads is insufficient for an informed community response, and urges the Government to delay the deadline for submissions until four weeks after full costings and detailed corrections are publicly available.

- Support LONG-TUNNEL Option 3
- The ONLY option of those offered that the EFTG
will accept for the Mullum Valley.
