Community Involvement

Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal

Lions Club members are involved with this worthy project each year. Members volunteer to collect money from the town and outlying farms and also count all money donated on the day.

Camperdown P and A Society

Camperdown hosts an agricultural show each year and the Lions are proud to be able help out by manning the gates and selling entrance tickets on the day.

Also the P and A Society encourages the Lions to sell milkshakes, fruit salad and icecream out of a specially prepared caravan, as well as run the BBQ.

Lions Assist

This service was established by the Camperdown Lions Club to help the elderly citizens of the community with small jobs that need attention but are not big enough to call in a professional. eg. changing light globes.

Fridge magnets with the Lions Assist phone number were distributed throughout the town and also the service is regularly advertised in the local paper to remind the community that help is available.

Smoke Alarms

Club members supply (free of charge) and change batteries in the smoke alarms of the elderly citizens of Camperdown at the end of Victorian Daylight Saving each year.

Meals on Wheels

Lions Club members assist with the delivery of meals on a regular basis.

Carols by Candlelight

Camperdown Lions support the members of the Apex Club who organise the annual Carols by Candlelight .

2009 will be the 69th annual event for Apex and is the longest running non- metropolitan   "Carols By Candlelight" in Victoria.

The event is well supported by the surrounding community and the Lions BBQ is always popular as is the Merry-Go-Round for the children.

Also some talented lion's members perform on stage (The Uniting Church Choir) and others may be asked to be the MC for the night.

Adopt a Highway

This program, established through Vic Roads has been particularly successful in Regional Victoria, by fostering ownership of the roadside.

The Camperdown Lions Club members look after a 2km section of the Princess Highway east of the town.

Combined Churches Christmas Appeal.

Each year the Camperdown Lions Club donates Lions Christmas cakes to the Combined Churches Christmas Appeal. These cakes are cut up and wrapped by the lions members so that they can be added to the parcels given out to the underpriviledged by the Combined Churches at Christmas.

Heritage Week

Lions members join with the “Advance Camperdown” members to help highlight all that Camperdown has to offer.

The Art Show is a feature of the weekend and there are historical walks, street stalls, church fetes and gourmet food to keep visitors and locals alike entertained and intrigued. Many of the original settlers homes, such as Purrumbete, Talindert, Puunyart, etc. are open for the community to look through and gain an insight into the lives of the landed gentry in the 1800's.

Camperdown Cemetery

The Camperdown Cemetery often needs a helping hand to maintain its surrounds. Lions have created a small garden and help in any way they can to keep the area as neat as possible.
