Pumper Tanker Support
TANKER

Mount Eliza operates a CFA owned Type 2.4D Tanker. A tanker is the workhorse of the CFA in bush fires. It transports its own water and can deliver that water via a pump to the fire. The tanker has working platforms that are protected by heat shields on the back of the truck where fire fighters can work from.

TYPE 2.4D TANKER - ISUZU FSS 550 (4X4) CAB CHASSIS

INTRODUCTION
In September 1998, the Country Fire Authority released an updated model of the four-wheel drive, 2000 litre Rural Tanker. This vehicle incorporates all the standard features of the previous Type 2.4D Tanker models, but has included new items such as Class "A" foam system, fresh water drinking tank, one piece galvanised steel tray frame (no step), new ladder roller system complete with rear ladder roller on stowage locker, polished aluminium bull bar, dual water tank level display complete with audible warning signal on the 1A level contents indicator, diesel pump engine stop solenoid and switch arrangement, etc.

The 2.40 Tanker has been constructed on an Isuzu FSS 550 Series, four-wheel drive, diesel-engine powered cab chassis.

The vehicle comprises a 2000 litre fibreglass water tank which features a removable lid for cleaning and maintenance purposes, a one piece fully galvanised steel tray frame, aluminium chequer plate floor panels, fibreglass heat shielding side panels, fibreglass stowage lockers, and a Roll-Over-Protection Stmcture (ROPS) for the additional protection of firefighters when
travelling in the crew area on the main roads and at the fireground.

The appliance is fined with a twin cylinder, 13 kW Lombardini air-cooled diesel engine complete with a CFA designed fibreglass noise suppression cowling and is close-coupled to a GAAM MK 150 single-stage firefighting pump.

The appliance is also equipped with an electronic, fully automatic, variable speed, direct injection, discharge side Class "A" foam proportioning system. The Class "A" foam proportioning operation is based on direct measurement of water flows and will remain consistent within the specified flows and pressures.

OPERATIONAL USES

  • The appliance can convey a crew of six (6) and the necessary firefighting equipment to the fire ground where it can be used to pump water from the tank, open water and street mains.
  • To produce Class "A" foam solution from the on-board tank to all delivery outlets on the appliance.
