Maritza Pertout's Home Page

Welcome to my Home Page! In the following pages you will find links to websites of an educational nature, on topics such as art, music, genealogy, cookery, libraries, among many (others). Some topics of special interest include medieval and renaissance dishes, recipes by Lyon's famous chef Paul Bocuse, Ennio Morricone's credits as composer of numerous film soundtracks such as The Mission, biography and works by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, films by Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini, Slovenian genealogy and heraldry, as well as a virtual tour of the Musée du Louvre and the Bolshoi Theater.

I was born in Chile and lived in northern Italy for a few years before migrating to Australia in 1972. My Slovenian father and Chilean mother loved singing opera, operetta as well as songs in German, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Italian and English. Apart from singing at night, my father taught four languages including Spanish, Russian and German, but mainly English. He also spoke Slovenian, Italian and Portuguese fluently, and had studied Greek and Latin. He read extensively mostly on politics, history, religions and linguistics as well as cookery and gardening. He passed away in January 2000 and is greatly missed.

My brother Andrian Pertout is a composer, performer, producer, arranger and writer. My other brother is Alex Pertout, one of Australia's leading percussionists and the Head of the Improvisation Department at the Victorian College of the Arts.

I am a qualified Library Technician and have been employed at the State Library of Victoria since 1985. Previously, I worked at the Campbell Turnbull Library of the Moreland City Council for twelve months from 1984 to 1985. Between 1997 and 1999, I undertook studies towards the Bachelor of Business (Information and Library Management) at RMIT University.

I am also a volunteer at Vicnet where I have assisted community organisations and small businesses in designing and creating their websites.

Between 2003 and 2007, I have travelled to Austria, Italy, Slovenia and South Africa. In Austria, I visited Vienna and Salzburg. While in Italy, I have been to Florence, Viareggio, Pisa, Venice, Vicenza, Milan, Trieste and Gorizia. In Slovenia on the other hand, I have visited Nova Gorica, Banjsice, Triglav National Park, Ljubljana, Kranj, Preddvor and Kamnik; while in South Africa, I visited Johannesburg, Pretoria and the Kruger National Park. I will begin to include some of my photographs from my trips in my website soon...
