| History of the 1st Moonee Ponds Scout Group
2005 - Celebrating
90 years of Scouting History of the 1st Moonee Ponds Scout Group Our Scout Troop was founded in August 1915 by Cecil Stevens and with the approval of the Gladstone Street Methodist Church, Moonee Ponds. We met in the church hall in Puckle Street until 1925, when we moved to our current Scout Hall on the corner of Ardmillan and Clarinda Roads. The Troop colours are purple and black because Cecil Stevens had a purple bookmark in the old testament of his bible and a black in the new. Cub Pack was formed in 1920 and in 1927 we formed a second pack, which we maintained until 1973. Along the way we also had two Scout Troops. In 1925 we started a Rover Crew named 'The Gordon Rovers' who merged with other local crews due to lack of numbers in 1986. They were then called 'The Keith Farquhar Rovers'. 1st Moonee Ponds has lasted over 90 years, through the Great Depression and two world wars. We have had 35 Queen scouts. Currently, we have one Cub Pack and one Scout Troop and hope that in the future we will be complete with a Joey Mob, Venturer Unit and a Rover crew. Amongst the oldest groups in the Moonee Valley District, we look forward to a long and prosperous future in Scouting. 5 December 2008, update.
