Air Camp 100

3 to 4 December 2005 at Essendon Airport

Celebrating 100 years of World Scouting

The Moonee Valley District celebration of the 100th anniversary of World Scouting took off on the weekend of 3 and 4 December 2005 with Air Camp 100, and what a take off it was!

About 120 Joeys, Cubs and Scouts from Moonee Valley District, supported by a dedicated team of Rovers, Leaders and adult support personnel arrived early Saturday morning for what would prove to be a tremendous weekend of activities.

Commencing with the opening ceremony and cutting of the celebration cake, the dignitaries included John Ravenhall, Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia, Judy Maddigan, local member of Parliament, Claude Midon, Moonee Valley District Commissioner (acting) and Jack and Jean Paterson from the Victorian Scout Heritage centre.

We then launched into a variety of activities including visiting the Air Ambulance, Essendon Airways Museum, the Police Air Wing and a visit from officers of the Australian Customs Service.  We also flew to Point Cook and did a tour of the Royal Australian Air Force Museum.  On Saturday evening we were entertained by the Hoadley Region Band and an "in flight" movie before sleeping over in the airport terminal building.

Other activities included a flight simulator, where Scouts were able to learn about the controls of a light air plane, woggle and paper plane making, a four way "Tarmac Tug" (tug of war) and ball games on the lawn outside the terminal building.

On Sunday the activities continued in patrol rotation and concluded with a closing ceremony at 3:00pm presided over by District Commissioner Claude Midon and camp director Marcia Helmers.

Everyone had a great time and we are all looking forward to the Water Activities Camp in March 2006, the second in the series of four celebration camps leading up to the 100th anniversary of Scouting in 2007.

Easter 2005

Congratulations to Dingo Patrol
on achieving the Gold Award at the 2005 Stradbroke Cup!

A message to the Group from Steve McLean, Scout Leader,

Hi people,
I have some fantastic news. Dingo patrol competed at Stradbroke Cup over the 2005 Easter weekend and came away with a Gold Award.
This means they are the co holders of the Stradbroke Cup at Treetops for 2005.
Their score was a very impressive 223 from a possible 236. The scouts have done not only themselves proud, but the group and myself. I feel like a coach whose team has just won the premiership!

You guys have done the Group proud. 1st Moonee are back!

Yours in Scouting,
Steve.
