HISTORY and AIMS OF THE TOURING CLUB

A short history:-

The Morris Minor Touring Club of Australia (Inc) was formed in 1984 by a small group of people who wanted to go away for a cheap holiday within Australia. They had a burning desire to use their Morris Minors to travel somewhere different and away from the mainstream tourist destinations. The founders also wanted to prove to the many disbeliever's that the Morris Minor was not just the little car built to do the shopping in but it was also a car capable of travelling longer distances over all types of roads. In other words, on roads that the car's designer intended over 50 years ago.

It is now history that the destination chosen was the historic township of Birdsville at the northern end of that most well known of the Australian outback treks, the Birdsville Track.

The Aims of the Club are: -

• to encourage all persons who have an interest in the Morris Minor to join organised tours of outback areas of Australia in their Morrie;
• to assist members in restoring Morris Minors to make them capable and safe to perform these tours;
• to exchange technical and other information relating to Morris Minors;
• to foster friendship amongst all Morris Minor Car Clubs throughout Australia by inviting members from all Australian clubs to participate in the tour as arranged by the Tour Organiser;
• to participate where and when possible in Community and/or charitable activities; and
• to help any club organising Australian Morris Minor National Rallies by arranging to conduct major tours in alternative years to National Rallies
