MIRACLE ON MAIN STREET - WARBURTON MECHANICS’ INSTITUTE

On the evening of Saturday, 16 December 2006 a huge crowd gathered on the car-lined Main Street, Warburton to see the phoenix rise not from a fire as had been the case in the past, but from its closure of some fifteen years.
There was no band to call the gathering to order as the Mayor of Yarra Ranges Council, Cr Monika Keane ascended the stairs undid the ribbon and invited everyone into the hall.
This was Warburton’s night and Mayor Monika cut the ribbon as she singled out the main participants in the hall’s saving and ultimate restoration.
So one of Victoria’s last two-storey weatherboard Mechanics’ Institute has been saved for the community and the whole of Victoria.
