State Racing Series

The State Racing Series is the premier regional road race competition in Victoria. To compete in the SRS, you must have a CAMS General Competition Licence (known as a 'GC').

To get your GC involves a lecture (known as the flagging lecture), and a test/observation day out at Calder raceway. You must have a full complement of race protection gear, and your car must be "log book'd" and registered with CAMS.

The SRS has a number of division, including MGs, HQ Holdens, Marque Sports Cars, Group N, Club Cars, 2.0L Sports Sedans, Formula Vee and Formula Ford. Sometimes the historics make an appearence also.

I have competed in the Penrite MG series which is open to all MGs irrespective of modifications. There are subclasses for various engine sizes as well as a road-going sub-class. I also intend to start competing in the Marque Sports races from the next meeting (at Phillip Island). Here are some piccies of some of the racing at the Winton round of the SRS in October '94. Excuse the fact that all of the photos have me in them, it is just that they are the only photos I was interested in buying :-) The photos were taken by motorsport photographer Greg Stanfield.
