Hodan Abi of Doutta Galla Health Service pictured with Chairman of the day Andrew Georgiou being presented with our Certificate of Appreciation and gift of East Timorese handmade soap. She gave our members an interesting insight into those Health Service.

Hodan hails from Somalia and her early education was in New Zealand and is currently studying for her Masters Degree part-time at university. All this while promoting a wide spectrum of health services to residents within the Doutta Galla area.

The Doutta Galla Health Services cover Moonee Ponds, Kensington,Niddrie Community Hub and North Melbourne, which is a very extensive area for her promotional work. Doutta Galla Health Services are quite comprehensive covering Dental, Medical, Clinical and Chronic Care together with Child, Youth and Comprehensive Community Care. They also address the complex issues of Mental Health.

Hodan is mainly concerned with Dietary and Personal Health issues and pointed out the problems of Vitamin D and Calcium deficiencies to people like her with dark skin. The sun which Caucasians can use to cover calcium deficiencies is most difficult for races with darker skin. They require to supplement their diet with foods that boost their deficiency by actually taking the supplements in tablet or medication forms.
