Welcome to Shorinji Kempo Melbourne

Everybody is welcome to enjoy and train in Shorinji Kempo Melbourne. We welcome both male and females of all ages. Unlike other forms of self-defence which require physical strength and conditioned bodies, Shorinji Kempo is based on speed, balance, and body movement. In this way, a small person can overcome a larger and stronger opponent. Shorinji Kempo technical methods and elements can be separated broadly into Goho (hard method) and Juho (soft method).

Goho are technical methods for receiving an opponent's strike, kick, or similarattack with a deflection or blocks, and overcoming the opponent with strikes, kicks or other such counter-attacks.

Juho are techniques comprising of grabs, throws, joint reverse, pins or throws.

You will find Shorinji Kempo is a martial art, with strong self-defence techniques and a powerful philosophical foundation. As such, there are many benefits to practicing Shorinji Kempo, physically and spiritually.

Shorinji Kempo Melbourne is the only club in Victoria and has trained at Monash University since 1986. We are a registered branch with the World Shorinji Kempo Organisation (WSKO) in Japan. Branches of the World Shorinji Kempo Organization, including Melbourne are non-profit organizations, so Shorinji Kempo leaders do not instruct Shorinji Kempo for the purpose of profit.
