How do we train ?
All classes start with light streching, usually followed by meditation, and then the training itself. We divide training time evenly between guho (the 'hard' techniques such as blockes, strikes and kicks), and juho (the 'soft' techiques such as grabs, locks and releases).

Do you compete in competitions ?
As consistent with the philosophy of Shorinji Kempo, we do not compete in tournaments. Shorinji Kempo improves ourself which in turn develops the ability to assist others in training and also in life. We are not about proving we are stronger or superior than others. Kenshi and teachers do not bow. Instead, we 'rai', which is raising your hands pressed together just below eye level, as a sign of respect, to the individual. .

How often do I get to grade ?
Shorinji Kempo in Australia uses a 3 color grading system. White, brown and black belts. Both the white and brown belts each have 3 levels called kyu grades. When you start Shorinji Kempo, you can expect to grade twice a year. For the few grades just before Shodan , or black belt, the time between grading may take longer due to the increase in techniques that are relevant for the grade. A Kenshi who trains regularly can expect to achieve Shodan within 5 years. This is of course just a guide, as class attendance and one's own ability may of course have influence.
